Santavan Hotel Shenzhen Guangming

Good hotel for business in the Gongming area of Shenzhen. The hotel is value priced - a comfortable hotel room for one costs around 340 RMB including breakfast. The beds are comfortable, and the AC works very well. The amenities are adequate - shower works well, but be careful with the toilets - they clog easily. The buffet breakfast is not as western as others, but passable. The staff speaks very limited english. If you're not conversant in mandarin, keep google translate handy. Wifi is sketchy at best, though this may have more to do with china internet censorship than the local service provider. If you use an internet based communication app, skype appears to be most reliable. Snapchat and whatsapp sometimes work and others not at all. The only drawback for the hotel is its location. The hotel is a 1k walk from the town center and in the more industrial part of town. It costs between 180 - 250 rmb to get to the hotel from Shenzhen port or Shenzhen airport. It costs less to take a shenzhen taxi if you have the driver use the meter instead of their proposed flat fee. I've stayed here four separate occasions in the month of July and the experience is very consistent. If you want a quieter room, ask for a south facing room. The north facing rooms open onto one of the larger and noisier roads. Can be loud even if you're on an upper floor.
