Golden World

In the 1950's this was an important hotel which celebrated visits by important Party Luminaries in the over sized Foyer. Wall to Wall marble in all the public places is a feature BUT not a penny has been spent on the hotel since the '50's. The first floor contains tired, rip-off shopping, restaurant and Health Spa which seemed to specialize in "Gentlemen" clients. I found the room sordid unhygienic and badly ventilated. Overall, the feckless staff were not even interested in talking to themselves. This is a ship which lost hope 40 years ago.

I went to China for the first time. By internet browsing, I came to know of this Hotel. I booked for 4 days. When I reached in night the Hotel people said that our booking was cancelled, but it wasn't. Nobody could speak English. The Hotel writes that it is 100 metres from East Station. But it is 5 - 10 mins walking. After we became angry they gave us the room. The Air conditioner was not working. My worst experience. The Hotel offered free Breakfast but instead they sent us outside in a street side shop which was more worse. The Staff was pathetic. The cleanliness was bad. Inspite of the fact that they offered free bus to Canton Fair, still it was not worth it. Better go to Overseas Chinese Friendship Hotel which is very good. I never wish to stay at this Hotel again in my life.

Rooms were not cleaned..had hair and food crumbs and bugs on the carpet. The room smelled like an ashtray! Staff spoke zero english. Was happy to check out as early as we could!
