Regal Riviera Hotel Guangzhou

I was booked in for 5 days by my company. While I was disappointed to see how the hotel had deteriorated from its glory days, the room was okay and I was prepared to give it a try That was until breakfast the following day. It's not a buffet so you had to order from a slip of paper entirely in Chinese. As I neither speak not read the language It was hopeless. I pointed to numbers on the slip of paper and were presented with items quite unpalatable to my western taste though to be fair the tea was excellent thanks to the assistance of some kind ladies. Later that day I was moved to a different hotel which had a buffet breakfast so I could at least point to what I wanted.

The building looks spectacular. But just from the outside. The hotel breaths the glory of the past but transpires decay and lovelessness: Complicated check-in, no personnel to help with the luggage. A raped lobby with rather shabby furniture which continues in the rooms: Not only smelling from the last cigarette but also its ash on the carpet. Worn out furniture and fraying out linen and laundry. The night with mosquitos was annoying. Got transferred to a decent hotel by my Chinese business partners who booked the hotel. Quite embarrassing. Try to avoid this hotel.

Stay there because it is closed to the family. It is not a busy hotel, a bit old may need some re-renovation. There are restaurants around and very easy to get anywhere. The canton tower is right next.
