Silver River

The hotel is excellent. Very near to metro. They provide three buses for Canton Fair. Very friendly for canton fair participant. But receptionist does not understand English well. Breakfast is full of Chinese food but difficult to eat. Neat and clean hotel.

The man at the desk took a personal phone call with us standing in front of him for 20 minutes and never looked up. The hotel asked for $40.00 in CASH no credit card before we could obtain a key to the room. Then the room was occupied and there was evidence of drugs on the dresser of the room. We went back to the desk to demand our money back and a young girl propositioned us for drugs and money. Very dirty and run down. There was no maid on duty so we got our cash back but I had to call to get a refund of my online reservation which they did refund my card.

My wife and I stayed in this hotel for three days while we were visiting china in June 2013. The staff at front desk battled with English, but their attitude was quite good and they tried to assist us as much as they could, directing us to interesting places to see, metro stops and shopping destinations for clothes, shoes and electronics. On our arrival in Guangzhou, we co-incidentally got into a taxi whose driver was super-friendly and he offered a lot of help - that was a great welcome into a foreign land. About the location of this hotel: Terrible!!!. It's too far away from everything. The metro station is only 15min walk away from the place - which is not bad at all. And this will get you to the newer part of Guangzhou (the Canton Tower, Opera House, Museum, New Library, asian Games pavilion etc.) in about 10 minutes - Must see in Guangzhou. In the makerting material they say this hotel is graded as a 4 star-don't believe a word they tell you. This hotel is as good as a 2 star grade. Will I stay in this hotel again? NEVER!!!
