As other travelers have commented, this hotel has seen better days. While its not unbearable, I wouldn't call it nice either. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls, the ceiling paint was falling down, none of the facilities in the room worked... literally nothing! I booked a Superior King Bed which promised a Jacuzzi room. The supposed Jacuzzi did fill with water, but that was it; no water jets, no bubbles. The steam room function was nothing more than a broken panel on the wall. The air-conditioner looked like it was about to fall off the wall as it pumped out a weak stream of semi-cool air. The bed was literally as hard as the floor (this coming from someone who has slept on plenty of hard Chinese beds). I wish I were just exaggerating, but this was the true state of the place. I cannot commend the hotel service either as we were first given a non-jacuzzi room even though our reservation clearly stated we had a jacuzzi room. They gave us the run around about how we were not entitled to a jacuzzi room followed by an admission that they had no more jacuzzi rooms available. Finally, as we were preparing to leave, they found a jacuzzi room for us. Also, our room came with free breakfast. This clearly upset the staff as they felt they were already giving us an "upgrade" to a jacuzzi room (the room we initially paid for) but we were informed that we only would be getting one free breakfast. Strange. I'd give this place a pass.

Overall we enjoyed our stay here. I made use of my laptop and google earth to navigate. Internet connection is free but gets disconnected frequently. People cannot speak english very well but are friendly and will write words in Cantonese for you. Use only this hotel if you are familiar with using subway train stations. Tip purchase a Yang Cheng Tong card transport card at subway station (close by) which will enable you to make use of Subway for a week [http://www.travelchinaguide.com/cityguides/guangdong/guangzhou/subway/metro-map.htm]. Then you can easily travel to any destination. Price is good and rooms are OK for the price. EASY ACCES TO METRO SUBWAY STATION. PAYMENT IS MADE UPFRONT!!!!

On the outside, you see the Dragon Pearl Hotel next door and think you've made a mistake. I've been inside both and they are pretty equal. The hotel staff is not use to foreigners so be aware. They refused to fill out our foreigners registration forms for the group until we provided printouts saying that it was a requirement for Americans to register persuant to China law. They had one of the biggest flash thunderstorms while we visited. The floor on the 9th floor was completely soaked and I nearly fell as we walked from the elevator to our room. The 4th floor has a massage service that attracts a different group of clientale. My family and I witnessed numerous people coming specifically for a 4th floor visit. During my own visit to inquire about rates, my sister and I were leaving to re-consider and get some more money. 1 of the receptionist saw my passport and wallet in my pocket. Not believing that I had no money, she frisked me and proceeded to tell me that I was trying to trick her by saying I had no money. Very unprofessional services. The beds are another story in itself. We Asians are known to have hard beds. My family and I were astonished by the amount of firmness. You could drop a 10lb bowling ball on this bed and it wouldn't move. Towels were torn and ripped as if they were 10 years old. The TV had a cable box which was nice... you turned on the TV from the nightstand. But after turning on the TV, you had to push the Mode button on the TV to use the cable box. We had 1 person turn on the TV and another person push the button as soon as got in the room to avoid the problem after we laid in bed. Outside the hotel, there is a bakery across the street that has pretty good sponge cake. The 7-11 a few doors down have excellent steamed bbq pork biscuits and Coke splurpee that tasted just like home.
