The University Town Hotel

It’s extremely unlikely that you’ll choose to stay here simply because you’re visiting Guangzhou. It’s out of nowhere and it’s very difficult to travel to other places of the city. But if you’re visiting one of the universities in this mega-university town, then this is one of the options. Room was spacious. Air-con was OK. Facilities were basic. No English Channel on its TV system but it had Hong Kong’s Jade channel. Bathroom was very basic and quite worn out. But it’s OK. Problems: you could hear noises from other rooms, loud and clear. If you can’t sleep because of noises, then you’ll need to think seriously. For me, I was fine. Mosquito was an issue. They provided you with electrical turn-away-mosquito devices but it’s availability suggests an issue of concern. Again, I coped because mosquitoes are not fond of me. Hotel’s facilities were also basic. It has shuttle services to trade fair venues. This didn’t help me. It’s tea room was quite disappointing (won’t suggest you to think of coffee). It also served the function of being a convenience store. But you don’t have a lot of choices. The only plus factor was it’s breakfast. I’ll rate it as very good: 5 stars by Chinese state-run hotel standard. Plenty to choose from. From dim sum, noodles to different ways to prepare your eggs. Coffee was not too bad: meaning I have seen many worse options. If you don’t need to stay need mega-university town, forget it.

I checked in seamlessly around 9 p.m. The room was large, clean but dim - as usual for Chinese hotels. No English TV channels so you can hardly call it International. Good bathroom and shower. Breakfast fair and coffee poor. I just took the bread and jam. I did not have chance to check out the facilities. Several restaurants available. As noticed by others, the University Island is in the middle of nowhere. OK for a day. Wifi typical of China.

My husband and I stayed here three times in our 3.5 weeks in China. This place is pricey for Chinese standards but we wanted to be comfortable. We appreciated having American toilets. They offer no bath tubs which I love and appreciate while traveling! The beds are basic hard Chinese beds. We are having a cold spell of 48' F and rain. We turned on our heat to 30' C around 80' F no heat! We called house keeping showed them the thermostats and said we were cold. They then opened a cabinet and gave up two extra blankets vs fixing the heat! We would recommend a different hotel!😜
