Shenzhen Capital Plaza

It's in the "old" part of the city, but it's easy to get around and it's next to two subway stops. The hotel itself is clean and comfortable. I recommend you take one of the Japanese rooms. The front desk staff are not great, but that's normal for China - customer service isn't really a priority in Chinese hotels. There is a basic gym, and a million massage places nearby. Recommended.

I have stayed at the CPH many times over the years and find it to be a consistent value. Breakfast is generally included. The rooms are clean and the service good. Internet service is reasonable but do not expect to stream video content. View from a front facing room on the 18th floor.

I can only guess that in its heyday, this was a remarkable hotel. It has classic styling, a grand entrance, and the room I am staying would be fit for a king...if it weren't hopelessly outdated and worn. Sadly, the wall paper is peeling, the furniture is outdated and worn, the bathroom is patched together, and...well you get it. I have a suite of some sort, that has a living area, bedroom, and a full bath and a half bath. There is (was) a cool little terrace that at one point in history, one would assume that you could go out for a view of the city and have a cocktail. But today, the door is taped shut, and there is mold and water damage at the base of the door. On a positive note: the service here is quite good. The hotel staff is very helpful and professional. The exterior of the hotel is also in desperate need of maintenance. Loose brick in the walk way and the steps from the side walk almost make it an obstacle course to get to the front entrance without turning an ankle. There is the saving grace of it being in a great (although congested and noisy) area of shops and restaurants to visit should the mood strike you. I will be trying the lobster restaurant later this evening. This is a really cheap hotel. But, do yourself a favor and find another one. There are better bargain hotels within close distance. (Also note that I did not book this reservation, it was arranged by my supplier's travel coordinator.)
