I spent a night at the Starview Mansion of this hotel. It is a first-class hotel, both in terms of services and hardware. More specially, it is a hotel full of modern Chinese characteristics (in contrast with those hotels rich in ancient Chinese atmosphere). It is so much like the guesthouses that the Chinese government uses to accommodate foreign guests.
I won't say that the interior design of this hotel, whether it is the lobby or its rooms, is pleasing. However, it is at least not ugly. Its style is extremely modern Chinese - it is very obvious that the hotel wants to design something grand and luxurious. It is somehow to the extent that, from my perspective, is too over. Nonetheless, I still need to recognize that this hotel does have comfortable and clean rooms.
While the design of this hotel is modern Chinese, its service is so as well, and the defining feature of it is that its members are extremely caring to guests' needs and wants. For instance, I told them I wanted a suite on a higher floor. They did not have one; then, they immediately arranged me with a more high-end suite (because the only high-floor suites they had were this level of suites). From this point, I can see that this hotel would really exhaust all possible ways to satisfy their guests. Another example reflecting its modern Chinese-style service is its turndown service. Many other hotels just help guests to rearrange the bedsheet during the turndown service, and that is it (I still remember when I asked Wynn Macau to do the turndown service, the housekeeping simply told me, "turndown service is just about tidying up your bedsheet"... oh, well...). However, things are different in this hotel. I can see that they have really seriously thought about what the guests need. For instance, when I returned to my room, the housekeeping had already helped me plug in the hairdryer (I cannot describe how convenient it is after the shower! No need to kneel down with the wet hairs to find the hairdryer and then find the place to plug it in!). Also, they would even observe how many guests have checked in and set up the corresponding number of toothbrushes for you. These are really tiny details, but they extremely clearly reflect how attentive this hotel is.
For foreign guests who want to experience the accommodation that foreign diplomats would be arranged to stay in when they visit China, this hotel is definitely the hotel to pick. Its interior design may not be as pleasing as the one you can find in top-tier international hotels, but it is definitely a very interesting one. Meanwhile, its services are so attentive that I have never encountered even in the top international hotels.
Zhuhai Holiday Resort Hotel (Starview Mansion) told me that they aim to establish a successful hotel brand with Chinese characteristics. I believe it has indeed succeeded in doing so.
