Gui Xing

The hotel is nice enough and quiet, just quite removed from attractions. Nice views from the rooms, just spend a little more to get higher floors. Had a problem with the internet connection and they sent a technician to the room, he even took me (and my laptop) down to his workshop and got everything resolved! DO NOT trust the travel agent here - she told us five times the Sheraton Guilin no longer existed in spite of the front desk speaking directly with said hotel. A nice mall about a 15 minute walk with good restaurant that has Western food.

None of the staff speak English. We have trouble communicating and have to resort to sign languages. Though it happened everywhere in Guilin, it just that for a 4 stars hotel I kind of expect they can understand a bit of English. We were in Guilin for 4 nights but only stayed in this hotel for 3 nights as we spent 1 night in Yangshuo. We requested for a room with 3 beds but instead we got 2 rooms on the 1st night. Later on we insisted for triple room and they just add additional bed instead. The room is not sound proof so you can hear what the the occupants of the other room are doing very clearly. Not to mention, the mattresses are hard as rock! Not sure whether it's a standard in Guilin because the mattresses in our hotel in Yangshuo also quite hard, though not as hard as the ones in Vienna hotel. Location is ok, a bit outskirt of town but still within vicinity. The good thing is it is within walking distance to a Muslim noodle restaurant. *Tip: If you bring clothes that need ironing, please bring your own iron. Unless you are staying at 5 stars hotel, there is no iron provided. We were desperate and we end up buying iron.
