Yangshuo Imperial City Hotel

Just off the main strip of West Street with its noisy tourist shops and bars, the hotel is nice and quiet. Rooms at the front have balconies, I stayed in 1207. English spoken and very helpful staff, bike rentals, taxis etc. Clean budget hotel. View from balcony attached.

The hotel is big and the design is lovely (traditional). The staff doesn't speak English at all, better to take a finished toilet roll to the reception to make sure we get extra if it's finished in the room. The room is big enough with nice bathroom. Very clean. There is TV that was not working, also internet for each room, my room was 2205 and I found wifi for 2204 and 2206 so for 3 days I connected to my groupmate's net. But in overal (in room and in lobby) it often disconnects.

I stayed here as part of a tour group. What can I say about the place? It's a complete dump, if you find yourself here something in your life has gone terribly wrong. How do I start? The room completely stunk. Not just a little bit of a smell. It was horrid. It was damp, there was mould on the ceiling and walls. The smell made my roommates chest infection much worse. I found a maggot crawling up the bathroom wall one night. Not quite what a expect for a hotel who actually wants to make a profit. The whole place is pretty dilapidated, the carpets had stains and it generally looked old and tired. When we were checking out, the final nail in the coffin that is the imperial city hotel was hit. The (we assume) head house keeper brought our sheets down demanding that the sheets were ruined and that we must pay the hotel 100¥. Yes one of us had gotten our period but I'd expect anyone in the hotel business to be used to it. They demanded the money but instead we went back up to the room and cleaned the sheets ourselves (yes, this actually happened) until the house keeper was happy with the results. They had also done this to someone else in the group as their towels were apparently too dirty. So to conclude this terrible hotel stay, I have one bit of advice... If you value your health, safety and sanity. Please find somewhere else to sleep.
