Hainan Fuwan Minorca Resort

The hotel itself is beautiful. We were 2 minutes from the beach and the room was lovely. However often a hotel is made by the staff. We arrived at 8 after a lot of traveling and were reasonably tired, also hungry. After checking In and going to our room to drop luggage we walked back to the reception (don't use the map, the place is a maze) the staff in the restaurant literally handed us a menu then told us they weren't serving food because it closed in half an hour. We then went back down to the beach to pay an outrageous price for 9 BBQ sausages and one stick of tofu. The staff are very welcoming as soon as you arrive but once they have your money their job is done. If you don't speak Chinese, don't bother booking here. If you don't like Chinese food, don't book here. If you don't have a car, don't book here as you are miles from everything and it's a big effort to get them to book you a taxi. Even the guy whose sole responsibility is to drive the golf buggy around the complex acts like he is doing you a huge favour. There are bicycles at reception, which are old and 30 yuan an hour. The concerge will leave your bags on the front step unattended until booked in, disappear whenever you need to ask a question or simply refer you to reception where there is no one who speaks English or has time to even try and help you. Also signs at reception point in wrong directions and we've yet to find the swimming pool. Plus side: incredibly comfortable bed, even more so after sleeping on traditional Chinese beds.
