Qinhuangdao Grand

From 14th to 19th December,2017, I was on board at Qinhuangdao Grand Hotel, in participating the event "19th International Robot Olympiad", held at Olympic Sports Center. In the hotel room, I found a very neat, warm, friendly environment in the hotel. The hotel has 2 building- I forgot if it's east and west or north and south. But One buildings room number is of 05 digit and other is of 04 digit. So, if you get a room containing number 81705, don't think, it's on 8th floor!! It means, you will need to go 17th floor and 05 number room of the first building!! It's an interesting thing I found there. They have all standard services,like pool, banquet, limousine service etc. Though didn't experienced much as the local organizers took care of all the facilities by themselves. The nearest shopping complex is "Tesco" from the hotel, which will charge roughly 12~18 RMB anytime drive by taxi. The only problem I faced there, the "English" language problem. I can't speak english and they don't speak anything except Chinese!! Though found 1/2 person who helped me by using online converter and I took the help or service by typing!! I think, person with English speaking ability should be increased in the hotel in order to entertain the guests who don't know chinese language, more effectively. You will surely enjoy the sea and beach view from your room and the lighting of the city of nighttime from your full glass balcony side. As the temperature of the city was roughly -4 to -10 degree Celsius, they had very good air conditioning or I must say heating HVAC system, sometimes you will even sweat because of heated air even in -8 degree Celsius! I will recommend to stay there! But with English translator!!!

I booked the so called 'deluxe sea-view room'... and what you get is what you seen in the photo I have uploaded. Nothing else needs to be said really. Don't even bother asking the customer service staff about it... I asked nicely and they offered me a room with a worse view, with the typical rudeness and arrogance to boot. I guess you can try your luck. Oh and the internet is slow.

I do not have any expectation with Chinese brand hotel, but this one really surprises me. We stayed in building B which is the newer wing of the hotel. We took a taxi from the rail station and paid RMB10 that is bargained before we boarded. It is common practice in China that taxi drivers charge whatever they want. It's a very short ride. The hotel entrance is building A. In order to go to building B, you have to walk through a hallway. The room I got is bigger than my brother's. Very spacious, and clean. There are eatery around the hotel, but not recommended. We tried one restaurant, food is ok, but the environment is not very inviting. Take a taxi or a tuktuk (I preferred) to go to the city center for more choice of restaurants. The best service we got from this hotel is the travel agent at building A. Our main purpose of going to Qinhuangdao is to go to Shanhaiguan. Mr. Wu from the travel agency helped us arranged a car to drive us to Shanhaiguan for a day for RMB400. He even offered us a ride to the city center when he saw us trying to get a taxi during rush hour. After he found out that my nephew is very interested in Shanhaiguan, and the Great Wall, he wechat us some information. Very sweet of him. After the long day tour, we decided to eat at the hotel. We tried the coffee shop next to the Chinese restaurant. Since we are the only customers at the restaurant, we got all the attention. Food was so so, but service was excellent. The lobby reception was kind of slow with check in and out. The hotel is not busy at all, but the staff tend to put all their attention to 1 customer at a time. At the time of check out, all staff were helping the customer in front of us. After waiting for 5 minutes, I told them I was in a hurry to catch our train. They responded pretty fast then. At the same time, I asked the bell service to get us a taxi that they did. With the price, the service, and the location of the hotel, I do highly recommend this one. If ever I go to Qinhuangdao again, I would stay here again.
