Scholars Hotel Suzhou New District

Hotel disappointing both by the quality of the rooms a little old and for the hygiene of the showers (traces of mold). Hearty but ordinary breakfast. The staff is very friendly. The property is well located though. Suitable for a quick stay.

Next to a mall and Lawson mini market Ole supermarket in the mall I bought tea there It is quite difficult to find Chinese who could speak English there Lobby and restaurant @7th floor Ample breakfast Queen bed, not too big room Fluffiest pillow Lot of tourists stay there

I would strongly advise anyone considering staying at this Suzhou Holiday Inn Express to think twice, especially if you're visiting in the spring or during seasonal transitions. The heat in this hotel is absolutely unbearable. Unlike normal hotels where you can adjust the temperature in your room, here, the central air conditioning is controlled by the hotel, not the guests. The hotel management chose to set the entire system to heating, meaning every room in the hotel is hot, and there’s nothing you can do about it. You cannot switch between heating and cooling—you're simply stuck with whatever temperature the hotel decides. On a sunny day, when the outdoor temperature was 32°C, my room was even hotter at 33-34°C during the day. At night, even though the temperature outside dropped to 18°C, the room remained at a suffocating 28°C all night long. The small window only opens 10cm, allowing barely any fresh air inside. The air was so dry that my throat and nasal passages felt extremely uncomfortable, making it impossible to rest properly. I tried everything to cool down—turning on a stand fan, using an AC fan with ice, and even hanging two large wet towels around the room—but it was completely useless. The AC fan provided a tiny bit of relief, but the room was still overwhelmingly hot and uncomfortable. To make matters worse, the circuit breaker tripped twice within an hour just from running the fan, leaving me without even that little bit of airflow. I was recovering from surgery during my stay, and the excessive heat and dryness made it nearly impossible to rest. My surgical wound was soaked in sweat overnight, making the whole experience even more miserable. It’s outrageous that a modern hotel has such poor temperature control and an unreliable electrical system. If you plan to stay here, be prepared for sleepless nights and extreme discomfort. Unless the hotel management improves its air conditioning system and allows guests to control their own room temperatures, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere.
