Bell Tower Youth Hostel

We recently stayed 8 days in this hostel in Xi’an China. We enjoyed it and appreciated many things about it. The staff spoke English well and were very helpful. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The location is great for wandering the local neighborhoods and areas around the south wall. If you are looking for an experience that is closer to authentic China as opposed to a western style hotel this is a good choice. We felt a part of the neighborhood. Loved hearing children play in the evening and sample abundant tasty local foods. Access to shopping, museums, and transportation was all excellent. Enjoy your stay and tell them that Chris and Lou sent you.

This hotel is located at the Bell Tower in the center of the city. The view from our 5th floor room was spectacular! The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was large enough to take a shower comfortably with plenty of hot water. The staff was courteous and helpful. The hot water had an unpleasant odor probably due to usage, otherwise it was a great place to stay. Will stay there again.

This hostel gets two stars for location; it's about all it has going for it. It is right outside the Bell Tower, but if you want to enjoy your stay, go across the street and stay the the Bell Tower Hotel. The rooms at the hostel were expensive compared to others in Xi'an, so I was expecting (at least) the same quality of room--obviously I was delusional. The place is disgusting and smells damp everywhere. The great view from our room was totally overshadowed by the horrible smell coming from the shower stall and the windows were so filthy you couldn't see properly. Also, the website and Booking.com falsely advertise that this place has a bar/restaurant. When I asked the staff they said, "Yes there is a restaurant, just no food or drink." There's not much food around the Bell Tower except fast food and if you're looking for a nice calm place to relax after a day walking, this isn't the place you want to end up.
