Grand New World Hotel

Arriving late in the evening (c22.15) our rooms electrics didn't work. Concierge arrived to look into it and left. Electricians arrived to look at it and couldn't do anything. Finally at 22.50 we were moved to another room. In fairness the Manager left a nice bottle of wine the following day with some fruit as an apology. However, we had several problems with our room key cards not working. The rooms are a bit dated/dowdy but acceptable and although a large City, this is considered a more rural area not a high profile financial City. The gym doesn't offer towels and only has treadmills and Xtrainers (plenty of them) and NO bikes. We had already done 25,000 steps in the day!!! No yoga mats for floor exercises. The pool was apparently good but equally did not provide towels. It is supposedly "non smoking" but the rooms smell of cigarettes and there were fresh butts in the nicely patterned sand in the top of the rubbish bins by the lifts - I don't think it is enforced at all. Breakfast was pretty good

Very pleasant hotel, clean, probably 4 stars, very decent rooms, bathtub but no shower, breakfast of exceptional quantity and variety

A very nice “venerable” hotel that has already passed its best times. But basically nice and friendly staff and very well located.
