Hanting Changshou Road

If you've not been to Shanghai before then when you're planning your trips bear in mind it takes ~1h from the airport to the City. I had an early flight out of Shanghai and could not trust getting the to airport early enough based on taxis etc from a hotel in the City centre. So had a room booked at Hanting Express near the airport, about 10 min ride. It is cheap and close to the airport based on the map and also the noise of the planes coming in to land. This is not only during daytime but night as well. The room is basic, with the usual kettle (no coffee sachets or tea bags however), TV, shower, and a double bed with a soft mattress (sounds silly but often the mattress in hotels are very hard and uncomfortable). Breakfast is extra - but cheap. They try to accommodate Western style breakfast as well (toast and cereal) as well. There is a mini bus which runs from the hotel to the airport terminals which you can book at Reception. BTW: In Shanghai taxis with 'X' in the number plate are unlicensed (despite the motifs on the car etc) - so you might think twice before getting into one.

I stayed here for 2 nights Jan 12 and booked it with very little information to go on (booking.com) Turned out to be a hidden gem for the price. The rooms are spacious-clean and well equipped. The staff speak perfect English and will do anything you require( printing docs- recommendations- luggage storage etc) I would compare the Hanting group to the UK travelodge set up. No frills just good value. 5 mins walk from Shanghai Rail Station(central) and ten mins to MRT. Breakfast is not to Western tastes but then again this is not a tourist set up. Don't bother with the restaurant next door, it's crap
