LongMen Hollyear Hotel Shanghai

One night stay in a hotel in a very hot city, tells you allot about a palce before you get used to it. The air conditioner was weak with the room remaining at 27 C even when the air con was at 19 C - just not strong enough. The bathroom and basis had a real pong to it - old pipes full of bacteria and "umska" cooking in the heat of summer. The hotel is old and worn out and staffed by some very grumpy people. The one amazing thing was that the bed was perfect - firm but not a board and the pillows fat and firm but with lost of give. I had a good night sleep in spite of the heat and the pong.

Hotel a bit old, but room is clean and big. Hotel is not smoking free (Seems like most hotel in china is not smoking free, even thou have non smoking sign 🙈）. Bed is very comfy. Location is great, just beside the shanghai railway station.

This is by far the worst Vienna International Hotel I’ve stayed in. Shanghai was experiencing very cold weather and the room was either ice-cold or overheated. The thermostat has only one temperature (disregard the dial, it means nothing) and that’s hot. Unfortunately, not hot enough to warm up the room unless it runs for hours. Thankfully, the housekeeper left her key card in the slot after the second day so the room could warm up. The carpet in the rooms is filthy—stained and grubby over all. Definitely a ‘keep your socks on’ kind of place. The bathroom is ice cold also...the heat doesn’t seem to get in there. Water pressure and water temperature in the shower was good. There do not appear to be any non-smoking areas of this hotel except for the lobby (also ice-cold; even the desk staff had their winter coats on). Rooms smelled strongly of stale smoke, people were smoking in rooms with the doors open and in the halls...and in one instance, in the elevator. The bed was fairly comfortable (very firm mattress, as is typical) and bed linens were clean and pressed. Breakfast was on the lobby level and you may as well have been eating outdoors as a constant cold breeze flowed through. Selections were just OK. When the yams are the best thing for breakfast, you know it’s not great! Coffee is premade with sugar and milk already added. They did fry fresh eggs; get ‘em while they are hot. WiFi was available but slow during peak hours. I recommend using a VPN. I would avoid this hotel.
