Shanghai Swan Hotel

Perfect Location just across the street from LuXun Park, easy, intersting walk to Hongkou sites and subway to greater Shanghai. Huge variety buffet breakfast. Laundry service fast and reliable. Friendly Staff. 2nd time we stayed here.

This hotel is struggling to call itself 3 star. The whole block is going to be pulled down and rebuilt. The hotel is on it's last legs. Fridge didn't work and air con was barely worth switching on. In the steamy September weather it was most uncomfortable and resorted to opening the widow to try and get some air into the room. On arrival toilet roll holder was completely empty. Thank god for taking my own toilet roll until we were able to get housekeeping to put in a replacement!!! Sitting on the toilet and a really nasty sight was visible. The rim of the sink which was hidden under a marble top had a nasty ring of black mould. On the positive side there is an wonderful park opposite the hotel. Very lively with groups of people everywhere practising Qigong and dance routines. Lots of cafe's and shops nearby. Hotel did provide us with the best 'western' breakfast we had during our tour of China.

This is an older Hotel and relatively run-down. We had a double room which gave little room to even move around the centrally located double bed ( a very HARD bed) let alone find a spot for two cases. Wallpaper coming off the walls added to the appeal. However the location made up for a lot of the other inadequacies being in a lovely little backwater across the road from a large park, Starbucks , ATMs, and very easy walking distance (5 mins) to a higher end mall and Metro stations, and a further set of shopping opportunities 5mins in the other direction. We took the opportunity (as an older Group even to go cycling ON THE STREETS quite safely. The food offerings for breakfast included good European ( or at least New Zealand) options and the Mongolian Steam BBQ option for an evening meal was a treat. We used this 3rd floor restaurant as a bar and gathering spot a couple of nights with no negative reactions.
