Jin Jiang (Classic)

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. Great breakfast and pool. Gym a little too warm, seemed to be the only room without proper AC. Everything quiet, clean, nice.

This hotel has a storied history. Most importantly, it was the venue for the Sino-US accord signed by Nixon. It can also boast hosting other dignitaries over the years so it has character as a result. It is situated in its own square which makes it relatively quiet and the surroundings are perfect for a stroll in the morning or evening. One is greeted warmly on arrival although the reception staff do not all speak great English but one can easily get by! The entrance is fairly grand with a marble staircase that I imagine is where the great and the good enter the building, but regular guests actually go down a few steps to access reception. From there, there is a bank of efficient elevators to take you to your floor. Our room was pretty standard. Very comfortable but not huge, with a perfectly adequate en suite with a large bath tub which is a major plus for me, as well as a walk in shower. This is an old building. The windows are old style with a double glazed section on the inside so as to retain the original look from the outside. Some reviews here mention the heat in the rooms, but we didn't have a problem with that during our June stay. It is a comfortable place to be with an excellent bed and a sofa and table. There is a room safe and most of what you expect. Breakfast was a substantial buffet and we had no cause to complain about the selection although this was the last stop on a month long trip where we had eaten a ton so we were somewhat less interested in breakfast than would normally be the case! I am not sure how often things are refreshed as we enjoyed the freshly squeezed orange juice but it was only there sporadically. Minor issues. The service is good but again, a little spotty. Some mornings we were left entirely to our own devices and were hovered over at other times. Again, nothing major. I would definitely stay here again for the location, the room and the overall ambience of the property. I am a big fan of staying in hotels. I find them interesting and exciting and it is nice to find one that isn't formulaic. I have to say that China does a marvelous job with its hotels. Even the international brands have large rooms and are very well appointed.

Fabulous room and bathroom, felt like I was in my own movie with is being so spacious and comfortable. Also a wardrobe for everything and the houskeeper was a lovely lady. This hotel definitely has the luxury feel. If you don't speak the langugage they are good with translation. Breakfast was good but they do not mess around with the times, I felt the breakfast staff were dismissive and rude at times, slow and not wanting to do much for us, one time I could not work the machine and a lady just slammed the lid and hugged and walked away but all other staff in the hotel were lovely. It's a great location to walk to near by attractions and the shopping but didi taxi back is a must and really easy and cheap
