We had made a large booking for a multi-family stay at this hotel. Before leaving for the trip, my spouse and I were terrified by the bad reviews here on Tripadvisor, and had already made arrangements to stay at the Radisson Blu immediately next door. Instead, we decided to give it a try and move if it turned out to be as bad as we feared. Everything was fine when we checked in. The hotel had a very Italian baroque feel and was much cleaner than we expected. The bathroom was thoroughly updated, and all the power outlets were universal so we never needed to use our power adaptors. Hotel entrance is on the ground floor, but the reception is on the second floor. There is an inside elevator from the ground floor along with a small waiting area, or outside stairs to get to the second floor. Then the HVAC system turned on. It continuously sent out warm sewer-tainted air above our bed, and would not stop until the room became extremely warm and stinky. Our other family guests complained to the reception, and were told to turn off the HVAC using the thermostat panel on the wall. We followed that advice and simply switched the fan off, and opened the windows. The smell eventually went away and never came back for the rest of our stay! The mini fridge in our room was not working. It was always warm. Many of the other rooms also had non-working refrigerators. We can confirm the distant exercise voices coming through the windows at 6am, which I didn't mind at all. There was also plenty of motorized street sweepers running shortly after the exercise voices. A construction crew was renovating a few rooms down the hall on our floor, so that was fairly noisy from 9am until 5pm. I found all of this noise rather unsurprising for a bustling metropolis. What was surprising was I could hear such sounds when 80% of the cars and motorcycles on the road were silent EVs. Like many reviewers noted, the hotel location is ideal, immediately in front of the Line 2 People's Park metro/subway station and only a few blocks from many historic, shopping and dining areas. The upscale New World mall is on the other side of the Radisson Blu, at east end of the same block. The historic Park Hotel is at the west end of the same block. Around the corner from the Park Hotel is a road full of small restaurants. We started seeing beggars on the street outside only during the last few days of our stay. They must come out with the holiday decorations going up in the nearby shopping areas. We used Easy Life Laundry +86 1684 3107 or www.easylifelaundry.com instead of the hotel's services. They pick up and drop off at the hotel reception, and offer same day pickup in the morning and drop off at night. They will stain clean and iron unless you ask them to only wash and fold. I'm rating this hotel 4/5 for location and value. If they fix the HVAC problem, then it would definitely become 5/5.

Staying at the Jin Jiang Pacific Hotel in Shanghai was honestly one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. If you want to enjoy Shanghai, you’ll need proper rest, you won’t get that at this hotel. Terrible noise, freezing cold rooms, outdated facilities, and zero comfort. I would give it 0 stars if I could. Avoid this place entirely. The location might seem convenient at first, right in the middle of the city, but that’s exactly the problem. Because it’s surrounded by constant traffic and street activity, you hear everything. The walls are paper thin, walls and windows have no insulation whatsoever, you hear everything from outside: cars honking, bicycles passing, people shouting outside, conversations from the rooms next door, and the loud slamming of doors throughout the night because rooms' doors normally slam hard to close, so you can't avoid that. It’s impossible to get any rest. The hotel itself is ancient, and not in a charming, historical way, just old, outdated, and it stinks. The entire place feels like it hasn’t been properly renovated in decades. The staff speak very little English, can’t answer your questions, and never bothered to smile or show the slightest bit of hospitality. It honestly felt like they didn’t care at all about guests. To make it worse, there is NO HEATING SYSTEM!!! We stayed in the winter, and to our complete shock, they only had air conditioning. When we complained, they handed us an extra blanket, which did not help. We froze the entire night. Accessibility is another nightmare. Even though the building has an elevator, some rooms can only be reached by stairs—terrible if you have luggage. The beds are uncomfortable, the pillows are terrible and the worst, and the overall sleep quality is awful. The only positive thing I can say is that People’s Square Station Exit 8 is right in front of the hotel, which makes transportation easy. But honestly, that’s not enough to justify staying here.
