The hotel is well located with several upscale malls within easy walking distance. This gives you many restaurant options. The malls also have a grocery store in the basement making it easy to pick up snacks or drinks for the room. My room had a mini-fridge. The breakfast was varied, but make sure you get a room that includes it or ask to add it at check-in. The restaurant doesn't seem to know what to do if you don't have it included and only want to use it once or twice. The lobby bar was always empty but had decent deals on beer and snacks in the evening. I found the hotel very quiet (I was on floor 13). There were several tour groups that used the hotel while I stayed there (I was there 11 nights), but it was never an issue except that they all went to breakfast at the same time which made some days very busy if you went at 8am. The hotel is down the street from the subway entrance near the malls. You can easily take the #11 right to Disneytown if you want. The shopping area outside the park has a lot of shops and restaurants, including a Cheesecake Factory, if you are looking for souvenirs. The malls all have high end goods (Prada, Chanel, etc...) no souvenir items.

Look, I will be frank. This is a dated hotel facility with furniture and facilities that needs a serious upgrade. But the customer service more than makes up for it. I have stayed here several times over the years, mainly for its location, and EXCEPTIONAL customer service. Especially the executive lounge staff - who go out and well beyond their necessary limits for providing outstanding service. Wow - they recognize me and family every time we return. They remember our preferences. They go out of their way to make sure we are satisfied. I dont know what else to say? Look, I know some of you may be turned off by old furniture, but I have learned that just picking a new facility (I recently had to stay in a Hilton new facility outside of Hongqiao) but one that has terrible service - isnt the right choice to make. Given the choice - pick people over facility. Pick service over anything else. I would highly recommend you stay here - the gym is awesome by the way - and enjoy the friendly people. Stay away from the crappy service at some competitor hotels.

I waited a while to see whether the hotel would send me a survey, but it did not. So I went onto trip advisor because I did not want to forego the opportunity to compliment the wonderful staff in the Courtyard Shanghai Xujiahui executive lounge on the fantastic service and delicious food they offer in the lounge (on top of a wonderful breakfast in the restaurant). I especially would like to compliment the executive lounge supervisor, Ms Bertha Feng, for her friendly md efficient service. She made us really feel very welcome so that for sure we will come back and stay here again the next time! (In Chinese the hotel is named “Tibet building”, with matching architecture visible from the outside, as I understand the owner has Tibetan roots, and so the lounge staff is dressed in Tibetan traditional dresses, which is a nice touch.)
