Ibis Shanghai Xujiahui Hotel

If you are a foreigner (many low cost hotels cannot host non-Chinese) looking for a room with a shower for a couple of nights and don’t want to spend a lot, this hotel is a good choice. Rooms are clean, standard equipment includes free coffee/tea and they have a friendly English speaking desk. Only the way from the subway gets a little long, if you have heavy luggage.

Neat and functional room. Meets the basic requirements. Mattress is rather hard. A further let down to spot others' pubic hair on the fresh bath towel. Hotel is a short distance to Hongqiao Road Metro station which links 3 Metro lines, very convenient to move around the city.

The location is fantastic, with about 15 minutes walk to Jiaotong University Metro station, quite central for Shanghai city. The normal Ibis finishing, though the floors and common areas were a bit worn. The general internet computer was not working. Also, I felt as if the hotel was a bit hungry for hiking the rates. The first night took some haggling to get them to come down to the previously advertised rate of my booking. And I had to skip one night because they "claimed the rare was not available", and was available again only the subsequent night. I stayed both in the windowed and windowless rooms. With windows, the few was so appalling, I had to keep the curtains closed. The cleaning was also less than what I expected of Ibis. I didn't wish to do DNA tests to identify previous occupants, so there was no need to leave their hairs behind. In all, the stay was okay. They lent me an umbrella to go out when it was raining. There are lots of restaurants around, and it was easy to get a taxi.
