International Exchange Center

I stayed in student dorms of this hotel during my summer chinese course. I didn't expect much, but was still very disapointed. As elsewhere in China, nobody on receotion speaks proper english. Breakfast is chinese, except from toast. Rooms were old (as expected) but not only that they were also dirty. The first thing I bought China, was cleaning gloves and cleaning remedies, so I could clean my room. Cleaning ladies come only every second day and only change the towels but don't clean the bed or floor and never empty the trash bin. I first thought that only the student dorm rooms were bad, but later they showed me the hotel rooms and they weren't much better. During my stay there water started dipping from the air conditioning directly on my bed. I went to the reception and asked them to fix it. They sent somebody in my room and the only thing they did was move my bed so the water was dipping on the floor. Location itself isn't anything special. The nearest metro station (Lonshanguan road) is 10min away, but if you want to go to the center of the down you have to drive the metro around 20min. Summed up: would never return again, even for that price.

I stayed in the fancy hotel A block for a month while teaching at the associated university, Shanghai University of International Business and Economics. The rooms were booked for me as part of the teaching contract. I was very surprised to see $85 per day deducted from my pay for sub-par lodging. I would have changed locations if I were not afraid of the host professor losing face. The Good: The location is great. It is very close to the 2 metro line, which goes through People's Square, Nanjing Road, Pudong Airport, the main western train station, etc. There are several restaurants varying prices and quality within 3 blocks. There are many markets, some are 24 hours within a few blocks. The staff is mostly friendly, but they speak little to no English. The rooms are very big. I had 2 rooms both larger than I expected a Shanghai hotel to be. Couch, 2 fridges, several chairs, 2 desks. The Bad: The rooms are not clean. The bathroom is not clean. The maids come every day and pick up a bit + replace towels/linens, but there are still random hairs all over the bathroom floor and mold in caulk in shower. The internet is not dependable. This is true even after I got a router just for my room. The shower leaks despite my best efforts with the shower curtain. The top of the tub funnels water out onto the bathroom floor. The shower also produces hot water only 90% of the time. So be prepared for occasional alternating freezing and burning blasts. The shower also does not drain. I was standing in water up to my ankles after 5 minutes. The 'drinking water' does not always produce water when turned on. It is sometimes cloudy. The bed was very hard. The springs pushed up uncomfortably when I rolled over. I bought a few extra blankets to act as a mattress pad. The included breakfast is an OK Chinese breakfast. The coffee is weird instant stuff with milk and little caffeine unless you pay for an espresso drink. You can get much better breakfast of fresh dumplings and buns for 10Y on MaoTai road 1 block away. The furniture is literally dangerous. I cut my leg on the exposed metal on the comfortable reclined chairs that look really cool. I moved them into the corner to avoid more injuries. Overall, I cannot recommend this property.

I stayed for a month as part of an exchange program with the Shanghai International University of Business and Economics. The "hotel" is located very near two metro stations (line 2 and line 11), with a good selection of restaurants nearby as well. Not all of the front desk staff speaks English, and the rooms were quite basic (at least in the student dormitory side). Rooms have A/C but no fridge or hairdryer. There is also no cooking facilities in the rooms. Cleanliness is average, but at least the staff (the ones who can speak English) is friendly. WiFi connection is also sketchy at times. NOTE: I only stayed in the "student dormitory" room and did not have the opportunity to see the "hotel" rooms.
