I stayed here with my wife and a couple of friends during our china trip. While it's not quite in the center of town it's very close to the subway. While not pristine, the hotel is decently clean and overall we didn't have too many issues. At the time we were there the staff did not speak much (if any) English. We frequently used google translate to communicate (e.g. ask for fresh towels) so be warned. There is a laundry room downstairs to it's great if you want to wash+dry something mid-trip, however the machines don't accept coins and we had to ask the staff for help. The street that the hotel is located on is full of small shops selling food. None of those shops have English signage so it may be difficult to order. However the steam bun place directly across has the best steamed pork buns I've ever tried.

Although it's near the metro station, having to constantly transfer to different lines can get really tiring, but that's just me. I thought it would be ok but it was a hassle. I got confused a few times riding Lines 3 and 4, so make sure to 'wait' for the Line 3 (Yellow line) at the Baoshan Road station when you're going back to Dongbaoxing Road station (the station near the hotel). The hotel staff are really nice. They don't speak English well but they're very considerate and helpful. Check in time is 2pm but they let us have an early check in at past 11am. Our room is ok. I could see the Oriental Pearl Tower and the Shanghai World Financial Center just a tiny tiny bit from our window. 😄 It's so pretty even from afar. We were on the 7th floor. No complaints except the wifi connection. It's hard to connect most of the time. We did get what we paid for. Will I go back? Maybe. 🙃 On a side note, I love that they always play Ballade Pour Adeline at the lobby. 😄

Rated against other Chinese budget hotels, I would give this Jinjiang Inn 5 stars. I had read good reviews of the Jinjiang hotels and my experience was the reviews are spot on. It seems all the budget hotels have the same or very similar star rating on Tripadvisor. I have found the star system works in other countries, but not China. I would certainly stay at Jinjiang Inn hotels in the future. The room was small, as you would expect with a budget rate, but was clean, well maintained and pleasant. This Jinjiang Inn is right next to the Metro station. Major Shanghai shopping road, North Sichuan Road, is a very short walk where you can find good places to eat and some good cafes. Jinjiang Inn wifi was free though slow. I would take shampoo although the shower does have a soft soap/shampoo dispenser. I just don't trust the two-in-one. Also, there is no bottled water provided for cleaning teeth. However, there is a small grocery store on the street level of the hotel. The reception staff really do try to resolve issues and their English is pretty good. At most budget hotels in China the staff don't give a stuff. This Jinjiang Inn is significantly better than the European owned Accor hotels. I have found Accor budget hotels in Shanghai and Beijing to be shocking. Anyway, I will certainly stay at Jinjiang Inns from now on.
