City Inn Happy Valley Cheng Du

I was one of the family members attending the wedding mentioned in in the review by Penguen and would generally agree with her comments. The Hotel represented excellent value for money but really liked my superior room which was bright and airy and the decor was fine. I totally agree with the comments about there being no concessions for western tastes for food in the Hotel but would highly recommend the omlettes in the Italian Restaurant immediately behind the Hotel, not to mention their banana milkshakes which were possibly the best I have ever tasted.

Several family members stayed here for a week to attend a wedding close by. It was ideal, perfectly clean although bedroom/bathroom decor getting a little tired. I had booked a superior room with king size bed; it had two 4' beds and as there were no drawers or shelves, I don't think it quite lived up to that, although at £25 a night I felt it was good value. It was rather hot at night as they don't normally turn on the aircon until 1st May, but they turned it on a few days early and it was more comfortable. There was a small fridge and 2 bottles of water every day. Plug-in mosquito repellent was provided although we weren't troubled by them at all anyway. Self operated laundry facilities are very useful. The location was good for the theme park - no problem with noise and very attractive lakeside cafes and restaurants behind the hotel. 24 hour Bank of China ATM and Starbucks (at UK prices) beside hotel meant the Chinese breakfast wasn't the only choice. We had the advantage of locals to drive us everywhere and help with any potential language issues but most of the reception staff had reasonable English. Note - maybe it's only at busy times, but a booking may not be honoured if not prepaid. This might be common practice in China - I have nothing to compare it with. A taxi to the city centre costs about 30 yuan (£3) and takes about 30 minutes in the scariest traffic I've come across!
