We booked this hotel because of the reasonable price and the good reviews from other clients. But we were so wrong... This hotel is expensive regarding what we get and it's clearly not a 4 stars hotel, not even a 2 stars hotel. Wenshuyuan station is less than 10 minutes from the hotel. The situation is not really good as you have to take the metro or the taxi to go to Chengdu's main touristic attractions (People's Park, Kuanzhai Alley, Jinli Street, Chunxi Road...). It was hard to find the hotel and I had to ask the staff at KFC. When you get out from KFC, you have to turn left and walk about 20 meters. Then you'll see a signboard "Tulip Inn".
The reception desk is on the 4th floor and is so small... Our first contact was with a man who didn't speak english at all. He was using a translation application, but the chinese sentences translated in english had no sense... We wanted to check-in and he seemed to understand it as he became active. But after 10 minutes he told us - with his translation application - that he didn't understand what we wanted. Then he asked two ladies from the staff to come and help, but they didn't speak english as well. Finally it took us about 30 minutes to check-in and during all this time there were other (asian) customers who were served by the three staff members while we were waiting and waiting...
Our room was on the 5th floor. The carpet was so dirty, like they never washed it... The room was dirty and old. In the evening, as we wanted to get a shower, we light on the ventilation in the bathroom. Soon after the later became to reek. After an hour it became so stinky that we decided to ask the reception to make something. The lady at the reception didn't speak english and didn't have a translation application, she seemed annoyed by our presence and not willing to help us... We asked her to follow us to the room, and finally the concierge came with us. He agreed with us and moved us to another room on the 7th floor.
Our second room was a little better. The carpet was still dirty but less than in the first room. And the lights were also better. Concerning the stinky bathroom, we finally understand that it was better not to light on the ventilation and to keep the sink stopper always closed. This method helped to limit the smell. The tv has less than 20 channels and doesn't work properly. Every evening there were some people coming to our room and putting some cards under our door... It was advertisement for call girls. I don't understand how is it possible for a pretended 4 stars hotel to let these people to come in and out every night. The price of our room included breakfast, but the choice was very limited and especially for the western meals... We preferred to get our breakfast outside.
I really don't understand how this hotel got 4 stars and good comments from other clients, but I wouldn't recommend it.
