Tianjin Super Garden Hotel

This hotel is very old and not well maintained. It might have been a 4-start hotel when it was new but it really is no where near it now. Staff are friendly. Breakfast is good. That's about most of its merits. There is an ash-tray in the non-smoking room when I walked it. The explanation was that guests frequently ask for ash-tray anyway so why not just leave one there. There was no WiFi in the guest room. I had not brought my wired adapter so I have to use the WiFi in the lobby. Signal was weak and sporadic, if you can find someone who knows the password. The shower was very weak. It barely formed 4-5 weak streams. Woke up in the middle of the night due to jet-lag, heard the people snoring loud in both rooms next to mine. The in-room safe is on the floor level. It's manual (firs in my life see a manual safe) and I had hard time reading the instruction 2-inches off the floor, side ways. Turned out that it was not a working safe anyway. Security will be a concern because two windows open up to the balcony what all gust rooms share. You don't have to use the door to get in. But the breakfast was good and the room was cheap.

The hotel seemed clean at first. However, lots of people smoke inside, burn marks on chairs in lobby and in the rooms on the carpet. Check under the beds they are very gross old food, dirt, and other unmentionable things were found after checking in. It's clear that housekeeping staff does a poor job cleaning rooms between each guest. Front desk night staff always asleep on couchs in lobby. This did not make me feel safe knowing the front entrance is unlocked and no one is watching it because they are too busy sleeping on the job. Seems very unsafe to someone unfamiliar with the area. The two older gentlemen who work in housekeeping over night are very sweet and personable. They were the only ones to ever stop by to say hello anytime I was out in the lobby at night. Despite all the noise from the street you could hear much noise in the room and the curtains blocked out the daylight if you needed to sleep during the day. This hotel has potential to be great but they need to work on housekeeping and front lobby night staff. I hope next time I stay I can give this hotel and excellent rating.
