Teda Central Hotel

This is a gorgeous hotel with great staff. Language can be problem but they (and we) use translators, not a problem. SMOKE!!! All thru the main lobbies and into our room!! No bueno!! Had dinner on the third floor restaurant which is gorgeous!!! The service was good except we ordered way too much food and the service staff did not tell us. They bring out one or two dishes at a time. They didn’t bring rice until the end of our meal! What? But they did let us cancel some food. Bueno! Then they left and never came back. We had to hunt them down to close us out. Maybe they got slammed with guests. All in all; beautiful place but I can’t go back until NO SMOKING is the policy!!

On every step I had problems with communication - especially at the restaurant. Despite that people working over there were always trying their best. Room was spacious but my window was so unbelievably dirty that I preferred to keep it covered with a curtain. I would honestly rate it with 3 European stars. Ohh... the wifi internet connection, I had to use my 3G all the time if I wanted to open anything.

I am in Tianjin for a conference and was staying at this hotel with all the other conference attendees. Checking in was very uneventful. My room is on the 17th floor with a street view. The furnishing in the room is adequate with free WiFi and free bottled water. There is a flat screen TV but the working space is small to allow spreading of the paperwork. The free WiFi is very slow. The room is tired with carpet show soiled spots and old spills. The bed is on the hard side by American standards, but typical for Chinese hotels. The bath rooms are clean but with mildew here and there. We arrived late and had dinner at the second story western restaurant. The price is high for Tianjin and the food was mediocre. I ordered curry chicken with rice at Y69. ($11), all I can say is the food is hot ( temperature hot). I believe any street vendor can cook better than this. The service can be classified as "trying" but not quite there. The silver ware was not on the table, we were never gave any napkins. the water was warm. The front desk was efficient and friendly. They checked three of us in withing 5 minutes.
