Asia Star Dali

Normal size room. Pillow too soft. Arrived late at night with our tour group and the hotel does not even bother to on lobby lights, it was so dark. Breakfast is one of the worst I ever had. Limited selection, smelly cup, dirty plate and sour fresh milk.

Contrary to some other recent reviewers we enjoyed our stay here. The hotel has an unusual and quite impressive reception area, overlooked by internal corridor balconies at each level up to the roof. The bedroom was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was not bad at all. Also, we were able to purchase reasonably priced beers etc at the little hotel shop and get together with other members of our group to enjoy some "down time" in the reception area after yet another busy day. Dali old town is a nice place to visit, both during the day and the evening and is walk-able (just) from the hotel. It was lovely to wake up in the morning and look out over the lake and mountains behind and to see the road outside virtually traffic free - very unusual for any Chinese town!

This hotel is for quick-overnights only! Hence the large amount of touring cars in the evening that are all gone by early morning. Perhaps they obtained a four-star at the opening but everything is outdated. Including the breakfast. Very unfriendly staff, and a free shuttle service to Old Town that does not even take you there... Our room has one little window, above eye-sight so we moved to another terrible room. Without wifi. We could only friendly smile, when at returning from Dali they did not know where our room key was which we handed in before going to town. Terrible. Btw relatively far from all activities in Dali.
