InterContinental Xishuangbanna Resort

As a resort hotel, it is very large, consisting of eight distinct areas. For first-time guests, it is advisable to have staff guide you to your room. The location is relatively remote, so ride-hailing services are the preferred option for transportation (with fixed pricing to avoid unpredictable costs due to frequent traffic congestion). The hotel offers a wide variety of breakfast options with reliable quality. In particular, the afternoon tea and happy hour at the executive lounge are well worth experiencing. Suite upgrades for elite members are not proactively offered by the hotel and may require some negotiation. Compared to city hotels, the value for money is relatively low; however, it is recommended for family vacations, especially those traveling with children.

Fabulous hotel although not perfect. The lobby is welcoming and vast. The room we were given was 875 steps from the lobby to the room. I always joke it’s because I’m a foreigner and hotels want me far away as possible! It was an exhausting walk some of the time and dangerous too as they don’t put carpets on the slopes on level 2 (only on level 1) and I cracked my knee and lower arm slipping then falling pretty hard on tiles wet floors - ouch. I’m still limping! The room is generous and well spect with large bed, white cotton sheets, big balcony and a decent bathroom with bath, 2 basins, wc and shower which only the hand held shower head worked. The outside space was a little basic. Breakfast was excellent with a fabulous choice of everything Asian and a little but of European which was the best by far I’ve had after 40+ hotels stays in hotels across China - so well done! The Thai/Chinese restaurant was adequate however the alcohol offered was basically beer, beer, beer and none were particularly pleasant. The special fish event was terrific value. It lacked the really decent crustaceans but all in all it really wasn’t bad. The puddings were uninspiring, lacking taste. Chinese really do struggle with puddings. Ice cream was nice though. I had coconut and it was really very pleasant. The Chilean wine was ghastly, truly ghastly and yet more beer and often lukewarm warm beer at that! The cocktails offered near the lobby were pretty good. The G&T was not bad but needed finesse and similarly with The Long Island tea. Both were 58 rmb. Sadly there were no canapés offered or nibbles such as salted nuts. It could be great but sadly lacked the subtle touch of sophistication. Almost very good after 5 days here but sadly I’m leaving with a bruised knee and arm but apart from that this hotel is actually very good and with a little better management and training it could be really great.

This year IHG nearly 100 nights, the end of the year to bring the child to Yunnan, previously lived in Sheraton, want to change the style, based on past experience, intercontinental Voco and Crown selected intercontinental, before departure to call customer service, help comment on the two children, hope to arrange a larger relative parent room. After arriving at the store the receptionist and customer service manager have refused to upgrade the family room, only to remain in the original room type, after staying in the room is more short, facilities are older, and other cities intercontinental difference is larger; room service needs to be improved, customer service calls are very busy, to children's utensils to call a few times before anyone connected. Breakfast is moderate, but slightly larger children's breakfasts are charged. The customer service also said that children check in to give two small gifts for welcome children, Schrödinger's gift, I didn't see it until I checked out anyway... Overall, the experience was very bad, probably due to the lack of tourists in the tourist city, there was no difference between the drill card and the pukka, didn't feel the overall service was any different from the Holiday Inn Express, and the service of other hotels on this tour such as the Sheraton Kunming/Fuxian Lake Hilton was simply different, worthy of this signage intercontinental! It's my personal blacklist hotel!
