Fairyland Hotel Shifu Street - Kunming

Stayed 7nights in Sept'13. Difficult to find the hotel especially if one arrived at the bus station at night. Not many locals knew about the whereabouts of the hotel. The room was spacious and clean. The ensuite toilet & shower were translucent glass which does not close properly. A/c & internet were working. There was a kettle provided. Upgrade to the next category room for bigger room. Breakfast were mostly Chinese food( stirfried vegies, noodles soup, buns and fruits. The receptionists speak very limited English but most of them were very helpful.

The location was great but...when using the toilet, room filled up with all the smells cause door wouldnt close. The bed was big, but really hard even in chinese standards and we couldnt get an extra blanket although the room was cold. Before noon there was really noisy construction going on and corridors were covered with some kind of protective towels. Location is the only major upside to this place, and for us it meant a only a few hundred meters to the theatre, great restaurants and the mall area. The hotel is situated in the middle of a shopping area in the street that leads to the old town. If you dont mind the mediocre facility cheap price of this place could attract you to stay for a couple of nights.

We stayed at the hotel on three occasions for two nights each time and found the location amazing. The location is great right in the middle of the old town. It is located right in the market which is great. There are many restaurants, shops and cafes in the area. The rooms are small and have a toilet and shower with a glass sliding door. It was like sleeping in the toilet with my face against the glass of the shower. It felt very cramped and claustrophobic. The staff at the reception did not speak English. At certain times of the day there was no hot water.
