This hotel has recently been taken over by China Southern Airlines. Its original name was Guanguang Hotel. My wife and I were booked into the Gyalthang Hotel initially, but only after one night there, we changed hotels for this one. The hotel is in the centre of town with about 5 minutes walk to to the old city and about 5 minutes walk to the shopping area of the new city. It is a relatively older style of a large hotel but needs some maintenance in the rooms and hallways. The lobby and common areas are well presented and is used as a venue for weddings. (One was held there on one of the days we were there). The staff on the front desk are very helpful and a few of them speak fairly good English. There is no room safe, but the hotell has a safe deposit facility for guests. The bathroom is good and there is internet to the room as well as complementary water. As part of the overdue maintenance, some wallpaper was peeling and a couple of powerpoints needed repairing. A heater was supplied in the room. Breakfast was limited but adequate for western tastes. We managed to show the chef how to make omeletes instead of sticking to fried eggs, which improved breakfast no end. There are many restaurants around the hotel and in the old city. Lots of choices. We suggest "Helen's Pizza" for authentic Italian food if you are a bit sick of Chinese/Tibetan food by this time.
