. Dont go with how it looks from the outside. It's a very nice hotel. I stayed there during my overnight stay at Kunming, paid by my airline career. So I have no expectation and I was pleasantly surprised.
First the rooms r very clean. They r adequately sized. Each room has clean comfortable beds, TV , electric kettle, sitting area with table and comfy chairs.
The bathrooms r quite nice. Clean towels and enough free toiletries. Even sleepers. Running hot and cold water. Free breakfast ! I even had a mountain view room
The Only complaint is an airport hotel should keep front desk employees who can speak and understand English! A country where u cant use google translate, it's very hard to communicate!

With this cheap price we didn't expect that much, but the hotel was really nice. The room was clean, the beds confortable and the bathroom very good compared to other chinese hotels. Together with the very good location its a perfect city hotel if you don't want to spend too much money.

The hotel is centrally located, even if a little obscure as it is converted from an old building along Qingnian Lu. It is only a stone's throw from central Kunming. There are plenty of rooms even on busy weekends, and the people at the reception are friendly and helpful (when they are not overwhelmed by guests). The rooms are of decent sized, ok beds and really nice warm water 24/7. Reliable, free wifi in the entire premise! The local breakfast is also decent for 15rmb.
And no matter how we tried to tip the super-friendly and diligent cleaning lady on our floor, she insisted it's her job and refused to take a single rmb from us. We were really impressed.
Our main complaint is with the stairs. There is no lift at the reception, and so dragged our numerous luggages up the main stairs (no concierge service service around) to the lift which is quite a distance away. Then there are rooms that are kind of in-between floors, so another flight of stairs to navigate at our floor. It's only after that we found out that the lift does go to the first floor at the back of the building (through the side carpark entrance), but no one bothered to tell us.
The hotel staff would also be happy to provide a map and point you in the right direction, but that is as much travel advisory they are able to provide. The hotel partners with a local agency to offer a few standard day tours, but don't know much about them and will only direct us to call the agency to inquire. I guess being more focused on locals, this is not a core business.
Overall this place provides you with a comfortable, clean, functional and affordable room in a central location. So it works if you just want a good place that works to stay for the night. Besides it makes no sense to come expecting the comprehensive services of a full service hotel.
Tip 1: If for some reason you are staying for 2 days or more in Kunming, it makes sense to buy the Home Inn card. For 50rmb it gets you a 20% discount during your first stay, and the card pays for itself.
Tip 2: To get there just remember the address if you are cabbing there. The entrance might not be easy to spot, but following the number you will know if you've overshot.
