Indigo Lijiang Ancient Town

The location of InterContinental Lijiang on the southern edge of the old town offers the perfect balance of convenience and heritage. One of the biggest practical wins is the driveway that led from the main road. Unlike many hotels deep within the city where you’re forced to drag suitcases over bone-jarring cobblestones until the wheels all wat to pop off and die, you can be dropped off right at the lobby here. Once settled, the two private back gates open directly into the ancient town, making exploration incredibly easy. The resort’s architecture is stunning. It integrates seamlessly with the environment, mirroring the historical Chinese aesthetic of Lijiang. The dining experience was equally impressive. Everything we ate, from the breakfast spread to the offerings in the Club Lounge was delicious. Note for Lounge Guests. There is a dedicated seating area for those with lounge privileges. It can get a bit warm in the mornings, but the staff were happy to open the doors to let in the crisp, fresh air. While this specific area doesn't offer a spectacular landmark view like some other InterContinentals, the atmosphere remains very pleasant. Regarding hospitality, communication was a breeze. The staff primarily use WeChat and are incredibly responsive. We coordinated a very early takeaway breakfast through the app for our trip to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, and they had everything ready and waiting for us. We were kindly upgraded to a room with a courtyard, which felt spacious and luxurious. A lovely touch was the traditional Chinese tea set provided in-room. Brewing tea in the cool mountain weather was a serene experience. The outdoor space is shared with the adjacent unit, so privacy is a bit limited. We found the courtyard area could have been a bit cleaner, and our electric privacy curtains to shied us from the adjacent neighbor weren't functioning during our stay so we cannot anyhow walk in just our underwear. Despite those small technical hiccups, the experience was excellent. The sheer convenience of stepping out of a private gate and being immediately immersed in the magic of the old town makes this the premier place to stay in Lijiang. Love this resort, can come, can stay!!

We stayed in Intercontinental Lijiang for 4 nights in June. It was a huge property that you get on a buggy to get to your room. Across our 4 nights stay, we stayed in various room types and all are immaculately maintained, though some could look tired in terms of styling and furniture pieces. We had the pleasure of interacting with quite a few staff including the unflappable duo of Miya Zhang and Nero Yang, both duty managers who resolved any issues you may have with confidence. Nancy Liu the front desk manager made check in efficient and fuss free. Over at the executive lounge, Jocelyn, Mia Yang and Leo Guo worked tirelessly to ensure we are taken care of. The food standards are commendable with a noodle live station. Through a back gate you are in Lijiang Old Town in minutes. Overall a pleasant stay at Intercontintenal Lijiang and its convenient location next to Old Town, I will recommend you seriously consider it whenever you are in Lijiang for your next holiday!

What IHG does best is the pre arrival communications and arrangements. This hotel can help book tickets for sight seeing such as the Jade Snow Mountain and Impression show. Their concierge is extremely helpful. Hotel car with driver is available for hire and we had Mr. Dong, who took good care of us and a pleasant to spend the day with. Hotel room is what you see on website photos but a bit smaller than expected. Basic amenities are provided. Surcharge applies for extra bed and breakfadt. The hotel has a gym with basic equipment, indoor heated pool and kids play room. Breakfast offers a selection of western and local cuisine. The hotel is within ancient town, walking distance to shops and cafes.
