Tailong Business Hotel

The 42km cab fare from Hangzhou airport to the Tailong Business Hotel was about 170 RMB. The English "Tailong Business Hotel" signage is very small so we were  lucky to have a photo of the building to refer the taxi driver to.   The reception staff spoke virtually no English and Google translate did not recognise their dialect so you will need to book on line beforehand.   Although we were on the lucky 8th floor, the corridoor smelt stongly of smoke but fortunately the room didn't. There was no fridge in the room, the carpet is soiled and the bed was quite hard and seemed to only have a base with no mattress. Despite the hardness of the bed and noisy street below, with continuous traffic and hornsblaring,  we slept surprisingly well. The room has a computer and wired internet. It is also air conditioned. The daily room service changed the towels and toiletires but there was not much evisdence that the floors were cleaned. There is a night club next to the hotel and a mini bar that includes food, nuts, some drinks, condoms and ladies underwear. As well as business men, there were also several bus tours staying there  each night. Breakfast was included in the tariff and is served on the 5th floor from about 7am to 9am. There was a selection of steamed buns, vegetables, dumplings, noodles, boiled eggs, bread etc.  There was also a person to freshly fry eggs for you. There is a restaurant on the ground floor which looked OK although we ate out each night as there are plenty of restaurants and new shopping centres within 10 to 25 minutes walk to the west.  They  even have MacDonalds and KFC down the road at the new Century Mart Shopping Centre. There is also a Metro store (similar to Wal Mart) about 2 km away along Jinjiadu Road near the junction with Moganshan Road.  Across the road from Metro there is a new huge shopping centre called City Mall nearing completion which will have a large nuber of shops, restaurants and movie theatres. We mainly ate at  the Noodle Bar located about 1km to the west of the hotel at 70 Zhujia Road.  Overall, staying a few nights in the Yuhang area, which is about 12 km north of the Hangzhou CBD was  an interesting experience.    Despite being the only non-Chinese in the hotel and in town at the time the locals were friendly and helpful. Walking along the streets gives you a good taste of modern China in the suburbs with a mixture of new and old. Having a local SIM card with data, which we ordered on line and paid extra to have express delivered to Australia from China Unicom, helped with navigation and, to a limited extent, Google translate was of some help as well as the calculator function on the phone to allow the shop keepers to key in the price of goods and services. The only other suitable alternative accommodation at the moment in the Yuhang area would probably be the Pujing Garden Hotel. 

Part of our tour package included a night in Hangzhou and we stayed here. Its very far away from the city center which maybe why its cheaper for tour group to place their guests here. Basic room facilities so dont expect much. Its meant for a quick stopover. Breakfast is served on the 6th floor for tour groups and the variety is pretty limited. Bare basic stuff. Construction is happening on the right side of the hotel so it got noisy from 8am onwards. Hotel is too isolated away and we didnt have time to look around its surrounding and like all tour tours, they pack you off on the coach early in the morning after breakfast

This room was included in our package tour and we stayed here on 28 November 2009 in room 3017, in fact by the time we reached the hotel was already midnight, so no time to explore the place! Though this is a business hotel but the room we stayed was spacious with 2 double beds, just nice for family of 3 with the child sharing with a parent. Toilet was clean and almost everything was provided! Not to worry about the see-through toilet, there is a blind to draw down for privacy. Overall quite good but the location is very isolated!
