We had absolutely the BEST time here.
What a beautiful island and the hotel itself - small but perfectly formed.
Don’t listen to ANY of the ridiculous criticisms of the food. We are well travelled, able cooks and appreciative foodies and, granted, this place doesn’t have the scale or the showmanship of big, chain resorts but - that is precisely its charm and exactly why we chose it. The food was honestly outstandingly good! - quality meats and fish galore, an abundance of fresh and vibrant salads and don’t even get me started on the sweets and ice creams. I generally prefer savoury to puddings which usually look the part but are often a pretty tasteless let down. Not these! - be prepared to gain weight because if you can resist them you’re a better man/woman than me. They are seriously good!…. And the cheesecake and panacotta ice cream - OMG.
If you really think you eat better at home - knock yourself out and stay home. It was EXCELLENT.
Staff are also lovely - attentive and friendly.
If you do have mobility issues ask for a low room as the island itself is hilly and there are many steps and inclines - but oh those views! We are active sexagenarians (which isn’t half as much fun as it sounds! 😂) and walked the entire island … 12k of it one day and a grueller uphill in the heat but the pay off was the beautiful coves and swimming spots.
Proximity and regular ferry service to Dubrovnik and neighbouring islands is an added bonus and how impressed we were with Dubrovnik - a MUST DO! Very hot by day so go early and a totally different vibe at night with the-young-and-the-beautiful stepping out in all their finery. It is scenic, vibrant, buzzing, great food, beautiful vistas and architecture and oh so cleeeeean! Galeb boat tours is another MUST … a half day of island hopping and blue cave swimming which will forever be one for the Lifetime Memory Box and a skipper that was just so genuinely nice!
My only constructive criticisms of TUI Blue Kalamota Island Resort are the Bali Bed charges which are frankly ridiculous and extortionate. 75 Euros per day for the premium Bali bed experience with fruit basket and champagne! - why???? There’s fruit in the buffet, a limit to how much of it anyone can eat and only one of us drinks . It’s 35 Euros without those “trimmings” and I won’t pay it on principle. I’ve paid for my holiday already and detest this elitist money spinning. Particularly galling when you see them largely unused but sunbed space at a premium.
Come on TUI. Either drop the charges altogether or at least make them nominal for everyone to use and enjoy.
The other criticism is the seating in the bar area adjacent to restaurant which is chronically uncomfortable. That whole area could be made SO much more of by way of evening entertainment but that seating is a very BIG no-no.
Still……Minor things and very easy “fixes”.
Everything else? Well overall - It was, for us, the perfect recharge with great walking on the island and lots to do off it.
Fell a little in love… with Croatia, with the island and with each other! Not bad given our 40 year Wedding anniversary ❤️
A genuine “Thank You “ to all who made it such a great experience. We appreciated every blissful moment. ❤️
