Hotel Britannia

This was my second stay at Britannia, which makes this review particularly disappointing to write. My first visit was genuinely enjoyable. The hotel is overall pleasant, has a convenient central location, comfortable rooms, and I left with a positive impression—which is why I chose to return. Unfortunately, the experience this second time was very different. Upon arrival, I found several cleanliness issues that I would not expect from a 4-star hotel. The mattress linen had a nasty brown stain, the duvet cover sheet had another small red-brownish blood-like stain, and I found hair underneath the pillow and bed linen. The toilet had clearly not been cleaned to an acceptable standard, with visible accumulated staining under the rim. Later, I also noticed what appeared to be fresh reddish-brown stains on the shower tiles. Taken together, these issues created the impression that the bathroom had not been properly maintained over time and that the overall housekeeping standards fall short of what would be reasonably expected from a hotel of this category—or that quality control is simply not being consistently enforced. Cleanliness is one of the most basic expectations when checking into any hotel, particularly a 4-star one. Equally disappointing was how these issues were initially handled. When I reported them to the reception, the first response was that the room will be cleaned “tomorrow” because no housekeeping staff were available at that hour (6.00 pm). Not acceptable. Eventually, the bed sheets were changed, but the other concerns remained unaddressed. I hope the management treats this as constructive feedback and strengthens both housekeeping practices and room inspections, because Britannia has the potential to provide a much better guest experience than the one I encountered during this stay. Overall, the hotel has potential for a very enjoyable stay. Haven’t tried the restaurant, only breakfast and while it met my needs, some guests may find the breakfast rather basic for the rating level aimed by the hotel. I would consider staying here again, but only if I could be confident that room cleanliness and housekeeping quality receive more consistent attention.

Very good hotel with a perfect location. We stayed 3 nights mid-July 2026 in a superior room on the 4th floor overlooking Heerups Garden and Square. Excellent starting point for partly urban life in Esbjerg, partly visiting Ribe as well as Mandø and Fanø. Super delicious restaurant, but the area is full of dining as the location “is right in the butterhole” Nice breakfast buffet, but it would dress the buffet if round pieces were from the local baker and not bakeoff... 😉 A large municipal car park in the “back yard” - which is also free on weekends - is also not so low. The only “going in the soup” is that there are no bruceniche. There is a bathtub with shower, but it is not optimal when we pensioners have to have the daily bath.

Hi, Britania. I will write a review as you have the sweetest employees! Both Sara Møller and Victor are the sweetest and coolest employees I have met for a long time. They are cute in meeting and thoughtful! They truly deserve everything in their way of treating others!
