small note in the hotel web site says : No hot water . as simple as this . if you dont see it ( like me ) then ,,,,,,,. They dont have anybody to check you in if you arrive late . You have to wait till next morning . Interesting is Hotels.com which is one of the web sites present them , hide this information and only send you in a small fonts after you pay and book the room and then resist and ignore if you want to cancell it , Both hotel and hotels. com to be blamed .

I found this on airbnb and it looked ok. I then contacted someone via whatsapp and confirmed $12 / night. Arriving after dark with a taxi from the airport $6 didn’t feel very secure. The owner then said it was $15. I showed him the whatsapp conversation and after a while he just gave in. I can’t say he or his son were too helpful or friendly. He then gave me what I hope for the hotel was the worst room. No window, a very loud air conditioner, no hot water, light coming in from the hallway through glass bricks, tv from the reception in the background. I got bitten by mosquitos and there were flies in the room although it didnt even had a window. Please spend another $13 or so and upgrade yourself to something nicer... I can’t say for certain, but i feel that $20 was also missing from wallet ( anybody else had this experience? ) In short: avoid. Never again. ( i know: what am I complaing about for $12? Well, I just had an AMAZING stay in Cuenca for $12/night!)

I booked thru Hostelword and received an email in English from Sylvia who I thought worked at hotel so I assumed it would be ok. My flight from Miami was seriously delayed and I arrived by taxi at the hotel about 2am. A security person called up to the night manager to open the gate and I was shown to a room. There were clothes hanging and in one of the drawers but the manager who spoke no English gestured it was ok - what could be ok about it????? Anyway, the sheets were clean and fresh towels were laid out so I decided to just get some rest. In the bathroom the trash can was full, there were used bars of soap, absolutely no toilet paper and toothpaste spray on the mirror, etc. In the morning I found some coffee in a cafe and walked the Malecon looking for an information booth or someone who spoke English. No luck with that as it was early and a Sunday. So I went back to the hotel and asked for Sylvia, but the manager indicated she did not actually work there anymore??? So I checked out paying for just the one night although I had originally booked for 3 nights. I took a taxi back to the airport and now the information booth was open and and found a nice gentleman who spoke English and he was able to recommend an English speaking backpackers hostel for me to go to for 2 nights. I have never encountered such a situation in all my travels and in reading other reviews and looking at photos, it makes no sense to me. This was not just dicey, dodgy or scetchy, it was downright awful!
