We stayed at the JW Marriott Cannes in late July during an oppressive heat wave. If you're visiting in peak summer, plan accordingly. Walking the Croisette before 10 PM was often uncomfortable, and the best days were those spent on or near the water. Note this won’t be the rooftop pool as it is incredibly small and has maybe 20 chairs. It was almost comical in size for this scale of a hotel.
One of the highlights of our trip was a private guided excursion to the Lérins Islands arranged in advance by the hotel's concierge team. It was a wonderful escape from the heat, offering crystal clear water, beautiful scenery, and a relaxed pace that became one of the most enjoyable days of our stay.
The hotel's greatest asset is its location. Positioned directly on the Croisette, it provides easy access to the beaches, shopping, restaurants, and the Cannes social scene. If that's what you're looking for, it delivers exactly as expected.
We stayed in an ocean view suite on the corner of the building directly above Hermès. The views were outstanding, the balcony was large enough to genuinely enjoy, and the room itself was spacious and comfortable. That said, the accommodations lacked a sense of place. The design felt like a JW Marriott you could find almost anywhere in the world rather than something distinctly Riviera.
The rooftop venue, Le Panorama Rooftop, offers spectacular views across the bay and toward the islands. Unfortunately, the experience never quite lived up to the setting. The space felt poorly defined, with diners sharing the rooftop with a constant flow of people stopping for photos and social media content. Service was inattentive, staff appeared inexperienced, and the food was largely forgettable. The view is the reason to visit.
We also spent time at Palais Stéphanie Beach, the hotel's beach partner. My recommendation is to book the premium seating on the pier. The breeze is noticeably cooler and makes a significant difference on hot summer days. The staff was attentive and the experience was enjoyable, but for us it felt more like a quintessential Cannes experience to try once rather than something we'd choose to repeat daily.
Breakfast at Scalini was the weakest aspect of the hotel. The quality was acceptable, but the operation felt overly large and impersonal, with a cruise ship style volume and atmosphere. There are far better breakfast options in Cannes, and room service on the balcony was honestly the preferable choice.
As for Cannes itself, prospective visitors should arrive with realistic expectations. This is not a peaceful Riviera village. It is energetic, crowded, loud, and active deep into the night. Road noise is constant and nightlife regularly continues until 3 AM or later.
Would I stay here again? Possibly. The location is excellent and the hotel serves its purpose well. However, travelers seeking a more elevated luxury experience may prefer properties such as the Carlton or other flagship hotels along the Croisette. Ultimately, they all offer access to the same beaches, shopping, restaurants, and crowds. The decision largely comes down to budget and personal preference.
The JW Marriott is a solid choice for experiencing Cannes. Just understand that the destination is the star, not necessarily the hotel.

Where do I start ? I think this property has two sets of guests , The super wealthy and the ordinary guests like us. But when paying €1,280 a night it’s expected that some type of respect is shown.
Now this is a lovely hotel, general staff are lovely BUT MANAGEMENT, have very clear agendas and loyalties.
We checked in at 1.30pm ish , my Nightly upgrades ( I’m Bonvoy Lifetime Platinum) had been declined, disappointed yes but that’s happened before.
On Check in I could see a suite that was on the upgrade list was available for the next two days, the receptionist agreed that the room was available but would have to check with the manager “Margot” and would let us know when the room was ready . When we got back guaranteed room time 4 pm had passed and our room was still not ready, we didn’t get a room till 5pm,
I was really upset , the “guest experience lady” said she’d spoken to the manager and we could get an upgrade for the first two nights only to an Ocean front room , no balcony. I asked to speak to a manager Margot arrived and explained how many Marriot Bonvoy guests were in house, and despite me being Lifetime platinum , they were under soo much pressure she was dismissive and didn’t understand that I was upset as the room I had requested was available on check in but had now gone . However we took the upgrade offered. as we were getting nowhere with Margot , the room was lovely and we enjoyed room service both nights in the upgraded room.
On our third day we had to move. We got to the room and we had booked a room with a balcony , limited Ocean view , on arrival only one chair was on the balcony, I asked for another but it never arrived.
It was fireworks night ( only 6 times a year this happens ) and as we didn’t like the menu offered on the roof deck we asked were we as in house guests allowed to go up to the roof top deck to watch the fireworks, “of course” said Concierge. We spent the afternoon by the pool and this information was also checked again with the pool deck staff up there. Everyone confirmed our access. At 5 pm they closed the pool and we headed back to reception, no notification that our room was ready despite it being so. Guest communications are seriously lacking at this hotel.
We had dinner out then got back to the hotel , the lift was doing overtime with groups heading up to the roof deck for the fireworks, our turn finally came , when we arrived we could hear an anthem being played . There was security at the entrance to the pool deck. He said No entry, it’s full! I said we were told we could go into this event previously by Front desk, I then said I was taking a picture of his badge to show who had refused us entry. I started to take the picture when he said no pictures and got angry . Then a manager arrived with obvious VIPs and started escorting them through , my husband was flashing our room key saying we were in house guests , the security guard PUSHED me aside to make way for the VIPs I said “don’t push me I’m 67 and have NEVER been treated like this before”. The manager asked if we were we in-house guests , which is strange as to get up on this lift you need a room card. We were then let in , Obviously the security guard was following orders but the venue wasn’t too full for the accompanird VIPS. By then the fireworks have started but I was still shaken and fuming to be treated this way .
In 15 years of Marriott Loyalty, I have NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH DISRESPECT AND RUDENESS!
After the display finished I asked to see a manager and told him I had been pushed , he said he’d look into it and contact us nothing happened. I have a picture of the guards number.
We went back to our room and till 2am you could not sleep with music coming from somewhere. The second chair for the deck I requested never arrived, this topped off one of the worse Marriott stays I’ve ever had. This hotel does not understand anything about customer service and supposed to be the treat on a 5 month trip.
Sorry JW Cannes you should be ashamed of your protocols and organisation skills our gust experience was DISGRACEFUL!
