Grand Hotel des Bains

Old-fashioned hotel with charm, certainly, but poorly maintained facilities, apart from the recent gîtes. The pool is very dirty with a black waterline, a light hanging in the water. Impersonal breakfast without a smile for which you have to ask for refills. The catering is very mediocre with buffets that run out quickly. Reception staff were quite pleasant.

Great location, air conditioned room, full but identical breakfast throughout our 11 night stay, some local products (charcuterie, fruit, chestnut cream, fruit juice) but the rest like cheese is not top and very tasteless. 3 poorly maintained pools, the bottoms are dirty, the liners dirty and the water quickly cloudy. The area around the pool is not swept, leaves, sand plugged....The rules of the pool are not respected, ball games, people who smoke , scream who run and jump. Sanitary facilities aren't cleaned, it looks like they're abandoned. Comfortable bedding, apart from the big and compact pillows, ideal for watching TV from bed but not for sleeping. We asked to change one, we got ONE for two, we dropped for the second.... Our room was not cleaned during our stay, just beds redone(except once) and emptied trash cans, even the relayer after a week was forgotten, we were offered a juice and a beer when we came to report it...a blow of brooms and a small cleaning of the toilet and sink would have been appreciated at least once or twice. As we reported, the cleaning was done the day before we left, too late... A non-functional kettle because the electrical wire didn't go to the outlet, we had to bring up the info, we were brought an extension cord. We tried the restaurant one evening, with the regional buffet at 32€/person excluding drink. By the charcuterie and this time the cheese that were from the Ardèche, the rest was good but not at all regional, meat in sauce( curry) but without accompaniment, falafels... on the other hand non regional dessert but mostly industrial and not famous. Why not offer a chestnut mellow or an apricot pie? Our room was on the ground floor , (ch2) it overlooks a corridor balcony, but it is borrowed by all, at all hours of the day or night. People running, screaming, smoking and even looking in the room, so you can not ventilate quietly. The shower in the room is poorly designed, the tiles are not sloping, it takes 2 or 3 carpets or towel to prevent water from flowing to the toilet. The smoking terrace is in front of the entrance, at the top of the stairs, too bad because everyone has to go through cigarette smoke to get in and out...

We had an excellent stay at the Grand Hôtel des Bains in Vals-les-Bains. The location is ideally situated, a stone's throw from the thermal baths, which allowed us to enjoy them easily ($31 per person). We ate very well, with high-quality local products, and we also enjoyed a massage directly at the hotel, in a relaxing atmosphere with bathrobes provided. Everything was there for a moment of relaxation and pleasure, we highly recommend this establishment!
