Le Grand Canal

Went there with my family (wife & daughter) and took 2 rooms. It was during the warm season and we planned to spin around Martigues and visit Arles, Aix-en-Provence, Marseille, etc. We made and excellent choice: the hotel is near-by the highway so we easily could direct towards everyone of our daily destinations. It is also close enough to the centre-ville of Martigues, with lots of nice bistros and touristic places: old churches, old houses, a laguna with nice sports and also the popular bistro named La Sardinade, where locals gather together every evening to listen traditional French chansonnettes, eat fish and drink wine. The hotel was nice and cosy, with free parking inside the closed hotel area, good wi-fi, comfortable (even if the rooms were not very large, but the space was very well distributed), nice and helpful personnel. We had a small problem with the car, they helped us in no time to get to the nearest garage and solve it. Very kind!

As well as being warm and friendly the receptionist went out of her way to make things easy for me. Particularly by showing me to the room, showing where everything was in the room, turning the aircon on, and attention to little details like how to operate the door lock. Plus getting me a list of restaurants/town map which was brought to the room. It all seemed very welcome after a hard day’s cycling when I had more than enough to sort out for myself.

The room was clean ok but one major problem ... in 39c temperatures mid-July the air conditioner did not work when we returned to room at 11.30PM . Tried to get someone to fix it but there was no night staff accessible or no clear instructions in the room on what to do.. South of France, mid July, no air-con... not a good idea for a stay.
