Saint-Trophime

I am a very experienced traveler (165 countries visited during the past forty years) and had a bad experience with the management of this hotel. I had made a reservation to stay at the hotel for an incorrect day, one month after I intended to be there, and the hotel charged me a 69 Euro cancellation fee even though it could have easily rebooked the room. I repeatedly had Booking.com, the service I used to make the reservation, ask the hotel to waive the cancellation fee, but the hotel would not do so, which I feel is unethical given the fact that the room could easily be rebooked, and most probably was. In effect the hotel double charged for the same room. I am not commenting on the location or quality of the hotel, I want that to be very clear. What I am commenting on is the refusal of the hotel to waive an unnecessary cancellation fee.

My husband and I stayed here in July 2017 for three nights. We booked the room not only for the location (which is very convenient to all anemities) but also for the queen size bed and wifi in all areas promised on line. Neither of these amenities were provided to us. Only French is spoken by management so it is difficult to resolve any problems. The owner reluctantly came to the room and attempted to resolve the wifi problem. No success. He then got his own phone and showed us that he had wifi on his phone in our room. This was of no help to us however. The bed problem was never resolved. The toilet seat broke and took hours to fix and we finally insisted they come up and fix it. The sisal carpet was shredded in several spots, the bedspread was threadbare, the walls were cracked and the paint in the room, windows, etc is peeling. Bathroom tiles were cracked. The owner never acknowledged us unless we spoke to him first during our entire three day day.

This hotel is located in a narrow street in the heart of Arles - rue de la Calade. It is centuries old and has a wonderful faded grandeur about. The proprietor is a wonderful lady of senior years, and is most pleasant, welcoming and efficient. The hotel has limited facilities, but spotlessly clean. It has excellent wi - fi.
