Le Grand Hotel de l'Esperance

A nightmare: very hot room. Impossible to open the window without letting in pigeon droppings accumulated in front of the window. Very narrow double bed: 120 cm? Wobbly nightstand. Budget renovation. Reception staff okay, but the breakfast staff is obnoxious. Discrimination in table assignment. Some are entitled to normal tables, others to cafeteria tables, based on what criteria? Bribe? Breakfast dishes black with wear. Error in breakfast billing: child at the same rate as adults. A disgrace.

A beautiful stay in a nice hotel in the city center of Lisieux Quiet room and location. Decent breakfast and dinner in the hotel restaurant.

I stayed at the hotel last week for 4 days on a Shearings coach holiday and was extremely disappointed with my 4 nights there It was very clear that coach guests are treated as second class to the independent ones At dinner on day 2 , as no meal day 1 , ithere was no indication of where we should sit, so I got my starter and cutlery and sat down I was then accosted by a rude aggressive female staff member, speaking in French , which i partially understood, who picked up my plate and cutlery , marched across to different area of the dining room , and slammed my items down in a table !! Not exactly good customer service!! The breakfast buffet was ok but the evening meals were appalling, 3 course but no choice and if you asked for vegetarian, which I did , you were served last , not just of table I was on , but the entire coach party of almost 50 people I felt that asking for vegetarian was unacceptable My vegetarian starter was a plate of coleslaw nothing else, main was 4 pieces of cheese melted on bread with a salad no dressing PreviousI mains had been a vegetable tart, pastry not cooked properly and 2 lettuce leaves on the side , nothing else The starter for everyone had been a vol au vent filled with cooked vegetables in a sauce , so for me it was 2 lots of pastry We had no condiments on the tables Room was ok , clean and fresh towels daily, hotel jas bar and lounge area , which were well maintained Hotel in fairly central position but mainly businesses not shopping
