Hotel Saint Jean d'Acre

I had a confirmed reservation that I'd made five days before arriving, and my card had already been charged. After flying in from the U.S., we got to the hotel only to be told they had no reservation for us. When I checked my booking, I saw it had been canceled that same day without any notice. What made the experience even worse was the way the front desk handled it. Instead of trying to help, they were dismissive and claimed we'd been the victims of a scam. That made no sense—I booked through the same agency I've used for years without ever having an issue. They also insisted the hotel was completely full and there was nothing they could do. Out of curiosity, I checked online while standing there, and rooms were still available through sites like Booking.com. That made the whole situation even more frustrating. Thankfully, we found a room next door at Hotel La Monnaie. The atmosphere was much warmer, the hotel had more charm, and the staff were genuinely kind and welcoming. In the end, it turned out to be a much better experience. I won't stay here again. If you book this hotel through a third-party agency, I'd strongly recommend contacting the hotel directly afterward and getting written confirmation that they actually have your reservation. Even if your card has already been charged, don't assume your booking is secure—that unfortunately wasn't the case for us.

The main attraction of this hotel is the great location right in the heart of La Rochelle and it has a very attractive and stylish lobby. However we paid for a deluxe room which had a port view and it very small, no fridge or decent storage space and only 3 hangers! For an extended day it was very limiting. I also found most of the Reception staff very dismissive and not interested in the guest experience and it was also disappointing that there was no water in the room, you have to go to the water machine which is on the other side of the hotel, and during such a hot spell it would have been a nice gesture to put bottled water in the room.

Beautiful, modern hotel in a top location Nice staff Family room very spacious and absolutely clean (with 2 double beds) Breakfast was delicious and varied
