Mercure La Rochelle Vieux Port Sud

Currently here now there is around 25 sunbeds at the pool so if you really wanted a hotel with a pool to actually use it I’d advise against it

We booked 2 rooms in the evening of Monday 20th July for that night at the Mercure in the old harbour of La Rochelle when we realised we would not be able to get further north in France that night. We booked through the Acor app, received email confirmation of the booking and could view it in the Acor app. When we arrived at the hotel at approximately midnight the reception staff could find no record of the booking. They would not take the Acor app or email as evidence. They simply kept checking their laptops and not finding the booking. Their apologies were very superficial and basically a shrug. It was only after we asked that they started to look to see if they had any spare rooms. It then took almost 45 min for them to check. We arrived tired and disheveled and they didn't want to help, frankly it was only when they saw the type and colour of our credit card that they suddenly started showing any interest in us, shockingly snobbish behaviour. After that they were suddenly apologetic. After we finally got into our rooms we discovered, for all it's style the walls were so thin you could hear people walking barefoot around the next room. Plenty of other, better hotels in La Rochelle, avoid. At 3:30am I received an email apparently cancelling my original booking, the one the receptionists couldn't find.

Very well located right near the train station, the tourist office, and the aquarium. With the shuttle that goes to the port, you can do everything without a car. . Very pleasant swimming pool (NB: difficult to access for elderly or less mobile people: no handrail for the steps and the first step is high. but for the rest, it is sunny from the morning, you can swim well and the cleanliness is perfect). Well-appointed outdoor terrace with shaded areas.. The breakfast is extremely varied. (only downside, the large number of guests...!) The room is well air-conditioned. (NB: no minibar in the standard rooms, however). We appreciate the environmental preservation details (water fountain on the floor. Bottle to fill in the room. Kettle and tea) Excellent welcome from all the staff, whom we warmly thank for having taken our requests into account with great kindness and smiles that are a pleasure. We will return.
