Relais du Silence Aux Ducs de Lorraine

We were a group of people who came to see the patchwork exhibition at the European crossroads in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines, and we were very well welcomed during our entire stay Bedding and meals were top-notch, very pleasant staff. I recommend this hotel

2-night stay with half board. We are very satisfied. The medieval village of Saint Hippolyte is magnificent. The hotel overlooks the Haut-Koenigsbourg hillside vineyards. Very soothing atmosphere. The room is spacious: 2 comfortable beds, a seating area, real closets, and solid wood furniture. Real curtains (sheers and blackout curtains). Evocation of a gentle, authentic, and comforting past. The bathroom and toilet area is well separated. Privacy is total. Access to a balcony equipped with a table and 2 armchairs that faces the vineyard and the HK castle. You can access the spa and pool area directly by elevator. The area is top-notch! Sauna, steam room, and especially a pool long enough to actually swim (we love to swim). True relaxation. Direct access to a pleasant terrace shaded by century-old chestnut trees where you can have a quiet drink. It would be nice to add a Thai massage service or something similar! The restaurant is warm in its Alsatian style and the food is homemade. No problem with the set menu, but the service is a little bit slow. During our two dinners, both dining rooms were full, and despite that, we were not bothered by noise or anything else. The space is well laid out. We love the breakfast: good, generous, with a large selection of savory and sweet items... The staff is discreet, very professional. We had a reading lamp problem that was replaced quickly. When we need to take a relaxing, no-stress break, we will go back there. Very good value for money.

A disgrace for an establishment that claims to be 3 stars. Run away if you still can, don't look back, and never come back. We had a 299 € smartbox gift voucher (about which there would also be a lot to say in terms of false advertising and a scam) for 2 nights + 1 dinner and 1 appetizer. The disappointment is total, both for the deplorable quality of the room, which was advertised as "superior" but in reality only has the name, and for the mediocrity of the dinner: * the room with carpet and outdated decor / no air conditioning (we felt like we were sleeping in an oven) / the floor and shower drains were clogged, turning the bathroom into a wading pool that overflowed onto the hallway carpet and created a dangerous slipping hazard / after complaining to have the drains unclogged, a pestilential odor emanated in the bathroom / a loose electrical outlet (risk of electrocution) / stained and tattered towels worthy of a mop / shower water barely lukewarm the second evening / a mini fridge that didn't refrigerate anything at all / a TV with no channels tuned correctly / a small fan with unimaginable filth on the grille and blades / a telephone handset with wires connected with tape / very dirty window panes / housekeeping that bothers you early in the morning to do the room (well, it's only a matter of refilling the shampoo and changing the towels because there are only two "housekeepers" to do 40 rooms - and I sincerely pity them). * the meal with a set menu and no choice (nothing à la carte) / a salmon and spinach puff pastry straight out of the microwave (no crispiness and boiling hot inside) / a filet mignon that was acceptable nonetheless / a single piece of bland cheese worthy of a discount store / a very basic blueberry mascarpone with a coarse crumble / drinks at an extra charge. * the breakfast is nothing to write home about, with a service that one could find in a low-end hotel chain. In short, pathetic; I gave it one star because you can't give zero. The only decent element is the view of the vineyards and the Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg, but even then, it's a shame because the street is noisy very early in the morning.
