EuropHotel Maupas

We took our chances and booked a room at the EuropHotel Maupas in Mirande, on the spur of the moment. The location is very convenient and on the corner of the little streeet that leades to the lovely town square, wich is a must see. The room was nice, but nothing special... except for the thing from outer space that lurked in the shower enclosure and applied fine needles of hot water to various parts of the body... weird! I think a simple showerhead would have been a much better idea. The restauant is quite simply amazing and the young Chef who was there at the time is going to make quite a name for himself if he hasn't already. The Michelin Guide people need to keep an eye out for him as he devops his already substantial career. The meal we had there was one of the best we had in France and it was very reasonably priced as well. The food was matched by attentive staff. If the hotel had been as good as the restaurant we would have given it 5 out of 5, But as the room was only 3, the entire experience comes out at 4 out of 5. Don't miss eating there if staying or pasing through

Mirande is a nice little town, perfect for an overnight stop. Gracia and Eric are true hosts. And the food... superbe! Definitely a place to come back to. My friend had Salade Gasconne, I had Foie Gras à l'orange, followed by une Cuisse de Canard confite for him and a Magret au Miel et raisins for me. A pleasure for the eye and the taste buds! We will come back for sure!

My sister and I stayed at this hotel the last week of July 2012 and I cannot find it in myself to recommend this hotel. While the room was okay size-wise but the beds were so uncomfortable that we had to take the mattresses off the beds and put them on the floor with the bedframes on their sides between the mattresses. Also, the room supposedly had air conditioning but it runs on a remote control which we did not have nor get despite requesting one. Thus, we had to keep our window open and the hotel is on a truck route. Bad news. The hotel seemed under-staffed and not very friendly. The breakfast was good, though.
