Hotel De France

We stayed here overnight en route from Cherbourg to our final destination further south. It was a good stop off point, in a pretty little town. We used it as a base for a visit to Mont St Michel, which it is perfect for. The room was basic but clean. It has been a very hot summer though and we felt that the room wasn't equipped for that. We kept the plug-in fan on all night but our children were still too hot in their mezzanine beds. The bathroom is best described as compact, which is fine. What I didn't like was the lack of a hook for the shower hose, so that you had to hold it yourself- tricky if trying to wash hair! I had sent a question to the hotel over a week before our stay via the booking platform I used, and re-sent it two days before our stay when I still hadn't received an answer. The day before we arrived I got a reply, which I felt was an unnecessary delay in getting back to a customer. When we arrived, the staff were all very pleasant. We decided to book breakfast and this was good value. Overall this is a good value hotel- we paid €101 for the room, with breakfast costing €7 per child and €13.50 per adult.

Awful place. The person (I presume owner) at reception is rude, uncaring and xenophobic. Advised that we were arriving fairly early but was rudely told to go away and come back after 4pm. At least we were allowed to keep bags in a corner. Prior to check in during the morning i had gained entry into Hotel de France which seemed to be void of any guests/ The hotel appeared to be derelict and empty from the outside. Inside wasn't much better. Eventually found a kind cleaner who indicated that I had to check in at a hotel nearby. Room was dark, dirty and needed sprucing up. Not a place I would recommend.

Should be called a hostel, rooms are very basic and are badly in need of modernisation. we were charged €58 for a double room, breakfast was another €9.40, which was basic enough. on the plus side its a short walk from the village center.
