Inter-Hotel du Grand Monarque

Late booked stay at this small town centre hotel, necessitated by short notice train strike! It is about 10 minutes' walk from the main train station and can be reached via a pleasant stroll through the botanical gardens. The reception staff are all friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast was adequate and as good as one would hope for at a 2* hotel, @ Euro 9,50. The room [I had #222] was a small single with en suite loo and shower, reached via a spiral staircase serving all floors. The room itself had no window and was airless.... but I got the last room available - so "any port in a storm"! My BB stay in that single was Euro 90,-. Within < 150 metres and along the same street heading West, there are numerous restaurants and cafes / bars, serving all tastes and - in that part of town - all reasonably priced. I ate at a Cambodian [La Maison Cambodgienne] - with starter, main and a beer for Euro 25,-.

Just a short walk from the train station, Gare de Nantes. Our rooms was on the top floor with a step gallery view of St. Clement's Church. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful historic attractions, local restaurants and easy access to Jardin des Plantes, botanical garden. Friendly staff but the hotel itself is quite dated.

The room WITHOUT ANY windows, the bedroom door is an old glass door, you have to draw a curtain to not have the light of the hallway, a room of 10m maximum with a price of 81€! No sound insulation, the shower cabin extremely narrow.The worst hotel ever visited! Run away!
