Hostellerie Excalibur

This hotel has bus stops very close by, to and fro. It's a walkable distance into the middle, if you feel reasonably energetic. The room was comfortable, the food and drink was good, as was the service. We'd be happy to stay there again, if our travels take us that way.

Great little hotel with lovely service, rooms are very clean and adequate. On site parking is good as you know your car is safe and secure. Breakfast was lovely. Close to the town just a 10 minute walk away. The only advice I would give is if you stay in the summer try and get a room at the rear of the hotel as it does face a main road.

Stayed at the Excalibur for 2 nights on my trip home through France, avoiding Paris, and exploring some new regions. On first sight Saumur in late September looks disappointing but staying 2 nights gave me time to look a little deeper. The region is beautiful, the touristic routes along the Loire very lovely and recommendable, as is a visit to the wineries, especially Langlois-Chateau 🍾🍷 The Excalibur appears to be in the wrong (very quiet) part of town, but that is actually not true. There aren‘t many places to eat around there but cross a bridge or two and you‘ll find some anyway, also the hotel offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as a bar. I appreciated the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, as well as the laid back atmosphere, and the very handy roomy parking in the courtyard behind the hotel. I missed a tea/coffee making opportunity in the room. Wifi is good, as is the shower. At times the hotel tends to be noisy (i.e. not very soundproof) but that‘s up to the other guests too.
